I don't need a political philosophy to know that Americans should have access to healthcare, that being wealthy shouldn't protect you from failure, that being poor shouldn't keep you from success, or that those who work for a company's success should share in the profits. 1/3

I would be totally up for this if my political opponents would only agree to stop hiring actual Nazis.

"Jon Ossoff, my advice to him is, if you start calling your political opponents Nazis, maybe it's time to shut up. That's just not what we do here in this country." -- David Brooks, this evening. Remember, Brooks still gets very handsomely rewarded by the fossilized media for saying shit like this

I often think about how the rise of the neo-fascist right corresponds to the declining numbers of WW2 vets around to slug them right in the face.

Pretty sure the way to actually stop Republicans from dropping the race/ethnicity questions is to position the move as a conspiracy to prevent white Americans from being aware of their own looming extinction.

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social

New from @datahistorian.bsky.social at Can We Still Govern?: The Trump administration's "radical proposal" to alter the Census would add a citizenship question, exclude non-citizens for Congressional calculations, and remove questions about race/ethnicity. 🧵 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-2030-c...

Before calling someone a “dirtbag,” the Senator should have had his facts straight. An apology is in order. Glad one of us knew the difference between the Atlanta Hawks and the Iowa Hawkeyes!

I worked with a lady who would close with "Have a Godless day!" every time she left a phone message. Years later, I heard someone use the line and realized she'd been saying "God-blessed day" all along. I spent years thinking she was aggressively atheist. Which is pretty funny in retrospect.

So...I guess I just needed a different suit? 😅

It's great to see tailoring accommodate such extreme movement today. This level of tailoring was a bit more common in the past, as you can see in old films featuring Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly, but many modern suits will lift off the wearer's neck even when they're just walking.

Since 1981, Democratic presidents have overseen the creation of 3 times as many private-sector jobs as their Republican counterparts. Excluding Reagan, the net private-sector job growth of the past 3 GOP presidents is zero.

The legendary Dolly Parton's gone now. As are Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson. Heartbreaking to see the old guard passing in a time when modern country musicians prostrate themselves to the rich and powerful. Thank God we still have Willie Nelson.

This is the most Republican story you will read all day. A Republican who represents Trump’s home district was arrested for molesting his OWN GRANDSON and could face the death penalty under a state law he sponsored. There has to be a German word for this.

This was the argument in 1968 that made Democrats open up their nomination procedures. Republicans approved heartily. Parties are not public utilities. If you want to affect a party's choices, join it.

My father and I flew into DCA to attend a funeral at Arlington National Cemetary. Usually a breathtaking view of downtown DC. As the plane turned toward the Reflecting Pool, there was an audible gasp in the plane, along with laughing. Yay us!

If my math is right, the crime rate for pardoned insurrectionists is roughly three times higher than that of immigrants.

NEWS: A @lawfaremedia.org report finds that *97* Jan. 6ers who received clemency for their role in the attack were arrested, charged, or convicted of subsequent crimes—a number much higher than previously reported. Incredible work by @katherinepomps.bsky.social www.lawfaremedia.org/article/the-...

This would certainly get someone's attention.

Red states that say fuck black voters and black districts should have black athletes say fuck their high powered SEC colleges. Lots of other schools will be happy to have them! Explain to me why I’m wrong.

Friends - please take a moment to read and absorb this thread. We need to get past the point of simply reacting to MAGA tactics.

Mary@mfbrodie.bsky.social

Fellow Democrats: we have to wake up and see reality. The Trump regime doesn't play by the rules. They do things "because they can." We knew they would gut voting rights. Louisiana cancelling the election mid-way is a test for November. We need to go on the offensive... 🧵

When a Bollywood event was held at the Tampa Hilton, I went through crazy security (and some scary dudes) to get into the hotel. There's no way anyone could have gotten a weapon anywhere near that lobby. Rather than a trillion $$ ballroom, maybe Trump should just invite Indian actors to his events?

Raffi knows of what he speaks. Yet, I've heard respected, seemingly intelligent lawyers argue against birthright citizenship in personal conversations. Rule of law is only an idea. And like the gods of antiquity, it requires nothing more than a change of mind to disappear forever.

Raffi Melkonian@rmfifthcircuit.bsky.social

At the risk of having this skeet blopped on my head in a couple of months, the birthright citizenship case is an incredibly easy case decided by straightforward text, and that’s part of why these amicus briefs are all such dunks.

Please read this article to the end. Even before ICE got involved, this started because this *blind man who speaks no English and uses a curtain rod as a walking stick* got lost on a walk and some Karen called the police on him and they tasered and beat him bc he didn’t drop the rod. WTF

For those of you keeping score at home, the actual cut to the Post newsroom was 45%, not the widely reported one third. Remaining journalists are a bit over 400, down from around 1100 four years ago and 580 when Bezos bought the place.

Exactly right. Bovino's leaving? Great, get Noem to resign. Noem resigns? Great, defund and dismantle ICE. Go after Stephen Miller too. Bring charges against ICE thugs at the state and local level. Lawsuits. New state laws restricting them. Every possible angle.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts. Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

The next Supreme Court term is shaping up to be the most consequential since 1937. Depending on how it rules, it may cease to be accepted as a legitimate arbiter, and even nullify its own power as an independent judiciary.
