damn, i couldn't find an affordable router that wasn't super expensive. the pc retailers by me don't have them, but weird little import shops do? interesting. using your own access point instead of an isp all in one is pretty life changing.

I have done this in the past and its really rewarding. I went with an off the shelf mini PC and ran OPNsense in Proxmox but you can basically do this with any old PC, and really lightweight hardware or a compatible router if you run OpenWRT. aftermath.site/opnsense-pro...

They can just spin up their own hardware and download an open source agent, or train their own. If they're willing to spend on power they can do it.
