2021 Republicans: How dare tech companies talk to government about moderating speech!!! We’ll create a whole false narrative about it and take it all the way to the Supreme Court! 2025 Republicans: We run things now so

Loved talking with Charlie. Always will have complicated feelings about the Bird but I continue to see new things (beautiful, terrible) in its history.

very biased but i think this pod with @goldman.blue — one of Twitter's early execs—speedrunning the history of the platform on the occasion of its 20th anniversary is a banger. a lot in here about how what made twitter special is also what has broken so many brains. Highly recommend!

Kids love Bad Bunny. Asked Siri to play Tití Me Preguntó and she legit said “Now playing titty my pregenta” and no one could recover.

Part of a longer rant about Alex Karp, first round hall of fame for motivated reasoning.

Listen to JD Vance when he speaks. He is being very clear when he talks about heritage Americans - and specifically who isn't included. @haitch.bsky.social @goldman.blue

7yo has his first loose tooth and it’s very exciting. But he already had his grown up teeth popped up behind the loose ones and it looks like staring into a sharks mouth rn

The killing of Alex Pretti and the grotesque lying was an overreach by the administration. They've paid a price and had to pull back a bit. But it's when there's some disarray that the democratic opposition needs to intensify the offensive, and turn a marginal tactical success into a major victory.

I suspect this will be true for most of the playerbase. Navigating addons sucks. Having it natively will be a better solution for most users. But the power user part of the playerbase is going to feel incredibly screwed (even if it turns out they can mostly do what they were doing before.)

The important point is that folks thought this was the end of all addons and that is very much not the case. But what is also true is that Blizzard wanted to offer natively a lot of the core third party UX enhancements that people were getting from addons.

And a lot of people are very upset that the third party UX addons they were using are now broken either permanently or temporarily. Obviously this makes sense. But I have to tell you. As a casual+ player? Blizz kinda crushed it. The new native UX is just better for me than what we had before.

For lo these many years there has been a robust third party developer ecosystem for Warcraft. This has enabled a high degree of customization of the player experience. In particular there are add-ons that both assist you to play the game better and allow you to completely replace the default UI.

In this latest release, Blizzard has clawed back a number of API hooks, limiting the way addons can work. Now, there is a lot of nuance I won’t unpack here in terms of what Blizzard said they were doing, how it was interpreted by players and addon devs, and what they ended up releasing.

Listening to the Fellowship of the Rings with the kids for the first time. 5yo: “Why is there so much singing?!” Me: “Baby I’ve been wondering that for 40years”

It’s a funny bit of authorial interjection that every character who survives the adventures in Lord of the Rings settles down to write a history or appendix of some sort.

Maybe the FBI will be honest and not cover up, harass witnesses, destroy evidence, and obstruct justice. And maybe my hair will grow back. If the FBI agents do what I think they’re going to do, though, we should know their names, and they should never have another day of peace.

It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

The Hobbit film trilogy is kind of mid but Lee Pace as Thranduil is worth it. In this scene he’s really making some choices.

Preview of a future disaster: 7yo: “do cats always land on their feet” Me: “that’s what they say” 7yo: “why” Me: “they’re just good at landing” 7yo: “am I good at landing?” Me: “dude please”

more confirmation that lurking clearly behind this idea of the “heritage american” is a straightforward contempt for the actual history and tradition of this country, such that vermeule has to hallucinate a framework to justify his desire to jettison the clear meaning of the 14th amendment

It’s wild to me that there’s a senior government official who posts daily about how they don’t like Black & Brown people on social media and it’s not a scandal. It’s just background noise in the overall awfulness of the Trump administration.

Can someone please respond to Stephen Miller with this message from Frank Sinatra?

Sherrilyn Ifill@sifill.bsky.social

Imagine watching Sinatra, son of Dolly & Antonini born in Genoa & Sicily, respectively, and Martin, son of Gaetano & Angela, born in Montesilvano, Italy & Ohio respectively, (Angela to parents born in Monasterolo, Italy), and crusading against the value of children of immigrants to the U.S.

Nearly died slipping on slime and should I perish this way I need my death to be politicized. Slime is a terrible gift for children. Terrorists give it as gifts and slime manufactures are the new ISIS.

A government that can officially declare that Jesus is your savior can just as easily declare the opposite.

Again this isn’t my interpretation or subtext. It’s the text. Contemporary hate groups and Civil War traitors to United States who rebelled to preserve slavery have GREATER claim to America than those without their ancestry.

And to my fellow Jews. Let’s just be crystal fucking clear. Idgaf if your great great grandfather was the Mayor of Deadwood during the Gold Rush. “Heritage” American will never ever include us.

This is the rationale for why he won’t denounce or exclude neo Nazis. It’s a more explicit rationale for why Confederate statues are to be preserved. He’s not arguing that Confederates are part of Southern heritage. He’s saying they have a greater claim on American than those who came later.

The Ana Gasteyer episode of Good Hang is phenomenal. What a talent good lord. I love hearing her talk about just winning the SNL 50 concert and her stories from being childhood friends with Jimmy Carters daughter are legit the most insane.

The internet is revolutionary to free speech because it empowers individuals and citizens to route around censorship in all its forms—even a captured “free” press. This is why private platform governance; law on internet access or online content, and anonymity online will always matter.
