Perhaps being an Alberta born+raised lefty, the thing I had to learn at a young age is: you have to fight like hell to build a community that actually cares for everyone no matter who is in power because electoral politics was always designed for the ruling elite. It‘s a luxury to give up.

There are some people here who might feel targeted by this but this is not a subtweet. We were all very badly failed by the institutions (including Atwood's fame) preying upon us. I wish I'd had more visible or tangible solidarity, but I carry that as a lesson for how I try to act today.
