Today my mailbox contained four flyers urging me to vote for Amy Walen. It's wild to me how much money is being put into fighting the "millionaire tax". (the flyers are too late I already voted for Forsythe xP)

I think it's time to get a new ref sheet. My design has shifted somewhat from my original refsheet, and I want to nail down some extra details, too. I'd deeply appreciate recommendations for any artists you know or have worked with that are great with this kind of work! Thanks!

AGENTS .md and CLAUDE .md files in open source projects are both fascinating and infuriating to me in oodles of ways. This is *exactly* the sort of documentation that devs have been both yearning for, and been unwilling to provide, for AGES.

But what does it say about us to notice that we're more willing to write documentation for bots than we are for our fellow humans -- or even for our future selves? Does this say something about the SWE community? That they/we care more about the code than the humans writing and using it?

I don't know. I think there's probably something to be said here about software development being, at its best, a dialogue between humans, mediated by machine languages. Consider the end user, and the other devs that are out there. They are who actually matter, not the software.

I'm in a group chat of furs who work at my former tech company -- it is SO FUCKING INFURIATING how AI pilled so many people are in here. This chat has been completely out of touch for fucking years, don't get me wrong; it's just ten times worse nowadays.

You see every single bit of faulty reasoning on full display in there -- tech inevitability, "the crash hasn't happened yet so it won't", complete ignorance of the broader impact (and why others hate it and data centers), the expectation that it's just gonna keep improving exponentially forever...

Every time I open this chat I just get mad. I've been silent in this chat for a long time; I don't work there anymore after all. Maybe it's about time I say something.

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

Four or five hours of digging thru udev documentation, learning about the audio CD format, and working around weird edge cases... I now can stick a CD in a drive attached to my server, and it'll automatically rip and host the contents on my personal media server ^^

The actual ripping happens as a systemd service, so I can walk away and check in on the progress remotely with journalctl. It took a lot of legwork, but I love how well it "just works" now. (But note to self -- if things are silently failing, make sure your scripts are marked as executable 🙃)

These are the projects I can really enjoy -- a rabbit hole down which I'm constantly learning little interesting things in a variety of domains, and they all come together into both a new level of competency, and an actual useful *thing*. Okay enough of this it's way past my bedtime GOOD NIGHT lmao

Had a really rough afternoon yesterday, but my overall emotional stability was saved by three of my closest friends being there for me when I needed them. Last night and this morning, I'm filled with just an enormous amount of gratitude for those folks; I hope they know how much I appreciate them.

(You ever get that feeling that, like, no matter what you do for the folks you really care about, you'll never be able to truly convey to them *just how much* they mean to you? I'm never gonna stop trying, you guys. Really, truly, thank you.)

I think it's genuinely, like, one of the "meanings of life" to experience the paradox of appreciating someone so much that there's no way to accurately express it, and still trying every way that you can, regardless. Feels like a "one must imagine Sisyphus happy" kinda thing.

It's not that I didn't know (most of) this stuff. But reading it all in one place was a fantastic, sobering look at just how evil the internet has gotten, and it ends with a very compelling alternative view on what to do about it.

I am both sad and angry at the current state of the web, as the independent web becomes more and more invisible, as child-abusing billionaires from the USA own half the internet, and had to publish my feelings in longer form: aria.dog/barks/every-...

Maaaaan I love it when stuff just works sometimes. Copied an rclone configuration file plus a user systemd service that mounts a particular remote folder locally to a new machine, started the service... poof, all my files appeared. Effortless. So satisfying.

god dammit man I don't believe in the concept that the universe throws challenges at us just to make life harder but cooking threatens to change that every single time

... How have I been in this community for over 5 years and not known about National Fox Day? Maybe that's my cue to take out the fursuit for some public suiting...

25 years later and The Onion’s ParentCorner 9/11 explainer from immediately after the attack is a better understanding of the threat environment than the one produced by the U.S. government.

Holy shit. I figured Seattle was pretty safe; I didn't know *how* safe.

Imagine if the @seattletimes.com and other news outlets were intellectually honest and published, i don't know, charts like this? Seattle is safer than almost all our peer cities, except the other one governed by a Democratic Socialist. Thanks @mayor.seattle.gov and @mayor.nyc.gov!

It would be nice if I could think to alter my clothing at least a day before the event I want to wear it to 🙃 (If I were better at alterations than I am, this wouldn't be much of a problem -- but no it's taking me like 2 hours just to shorten the length of a shirt. Aaaaaaaa)

I've been thinking since I stepped down from FWA leadership about how much furry conventions have grown, and how much we now ask of the volunteers who keep them running. I decided to put those thoughts into words, and I'd appreciate it if you'd give them a read: gomi.gay/blog/26-09-0...

gomi.gayAs Furry Conventions Grow, Our Expectations Need to ChangeFurry conventions depend on volunteers giving extraordinary amounts of their time. As our events grow, we need to ask when that generosity becomes something our conventions depend on.

Went down a long rabbit hole tonight of old My Little Pony stuff with a friend who was never into it. It felt really great, until it didn't. Life was so much easier back then. Not really, and not better, either; I just had a lot more certainty about a lot of things.

Today... ugh, everything's so complicated. Since then, I've discovered needs I never knew I had; really figured out what it meant to feel loved by a companion, before those feelings became scarce. The world is scarier. My future is way less certain than it felt back then.

It felt so good to go back to that simpler feeling, less uncertain past. I know my memories aren't quite true, and I know my life is actually in reality so much richer now. I should be happy for who I've become. I wish I could truly feel that way about it right now, though.

I have grown so much. I've become so much more authentically myself, and have had so many new and different experiences unfathomable to past me. I thought I had everything so figured out back then. I didn't, but god, how much easier it was when I thought I knew it all.

Even that's coming thru rose-tinted glasses. I had always tortured myself over my hobbies, never being "good enough" to feel deserving of self-esteem. (Still working on that one.) Still. Ignorance really was bliss.

you used to have to become unfathomably wealthy to experience this, but the horse head kicking industry has been disrupted and now you can get the same results for a fraction of the cost. that's innovation babyyyy
