It's hard to get my head around the hypocrisy of seeing Stephen Flynn MSP visiting flood victims in Largs yesterday in the likely full knowledge that the Scot Govt were going to approve Peterhead today. Shame on the Scot Govt

BREAKING 🚨 The Scottish Government has approved the new gas burning power station at Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. This decision is a catastrophic failure to protect people from climate breakdown and the greedy fossil fuel industry.

The new plant will lock people into paying energy prices dictated by volatile fossil gas markets for decades. Scottish Ministers claim the plant will use carbon capture – but there is no working carbon capture transport and storage network in Scotland.

First the Jackdaw gas field, now Peterhead power station - by continuing to back new fossil fuels the UK and Scottish Governments are putting people in greater danger from extreme weather. We need climate solutions that improve lives - not new fossil fuels.

Private companies are ripping us off for our basic needs like transport and energy.💸 By delivering these through public ownership instead - we can help cut people's bills and build institutions that work in the interest of their workers and communities. 🤝 www.heraldscotland.com/news/2666557...

BREAKING: The UK Govt has approved the Jackdaw gas field. This will put more people at risk from extreme weather and fuel poverty. It's a distraction from the fair transition away from fossil fuels. This MUST be the last North Sea oil and gas approval.

We said this was a *clear conflict of interest* five years ago when it was reported with previous members. It is astonishing that nothing has been done to stop this corporate capture of the oil and gas regulator.

“It is outrageous that people who are supposed to be regulating the oil and gas industry also have a direct financial interest in companies that are subject to that regulation”

Ofgem's price cap is rising today, but experts predict the worst is yet to come. All the while we stay hooked to volatile fossil fuel markets, UK households will be stuck with high energy bills, while energy giants take home billions in profit.

Wind and solar supplied 33% of EU electricity in the 12 months to August 2026, against 29% from fossil. In 2016 it was 13% and 43%.

The Scottish Government's focus on incineration and failure to reduce waste has gotten us into this mess. More than half of household waste could be recycled. We need to make systemic changes that mean boost reuse, recycling and cut down what is going to landfill. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

NEW INVESTIGATION – this summer saw temperature records smashed around the UK. We asked NHS trusts in England and Wales how many operations they were forced to cancel due to overheating surgical theatres They provided details of 1,110 operations that were called off in the May and June heatwaves

“If the UK develops additional oil and gas production, that does not mean an equivalent quantity of production elsewhere automatically stops. It adds additional fossil-fuel supply to an international market." Why is this point so hard for so many to grasp? climateuncensored.com/there-is-no-...

The £2 bus fare cap is little more than a sticking plaster on a broken bus system that is failing communities and the planet. Cheaper tickets make little difference to people where buses don’t turn up, services have been cut, or a route doesn’t exist in the first place. foe.scot/press-releas...

foe.scot£2 bus fare cap is 'sticking plaster'Transport campaigners have welcomed the £2 fare cap for buses in Glasgow and West of Scotland but said that it was “little more than a sticking plaster” on a broken system.

Campaigners from across Scotland were outside the Scottish Parliament yesterday demanding a pause on plans for mega data centres in Scotland. Evidence now suggests that Scotland could end up with over 70 data centres - which would use the same amount of electricity as 8 million homes. 1/2

New fossil fuels at Jackdaw means deadly new climate disasters.🧑‍🚒 It means more glacial melt in places like Nepal and extreme heatwaves that have killed thousands in the UK.🌡️ It is terrifying that the UK Govt would cave to demands of oil lobbyists rather than prioritising our collective safety.🛢️

Stat of the day UK 1️⃣3️⃣0️⃣❎ more likely to experience a summer like the one we’ve just had due to climate change “In a climate unaffected by human emissions, this would be exceptionally unlikely, i.e. 1 in over 1,000 years. In current climate, we should now expect this to be approx 1 in 9 year event"
