Claims that the targets are unachievable do not match the market-wide picture. The car industry met the mandate in its first two years and is on track to meet it again this year.

If the 2030 target were cut to 50%, the additional emissions could reach 1️⃣4️⃣7️⃣ MtCO₂e That is around 58% of the emissions from using all the oil in the Rosebank field

Relaxing the rules could encourage greater sales of plug-in hybrids. But real-world evidence shows they consume, on average, five times more fuel than official tests suggest, increasing both fuel bills and pollution.

Analysis does not mean that healthier diets are necessarily cheaper overall. Instead, it shows that households following more balanced diets would have been less exposed to some of the fastest-rising food prices in recent years.

Findings suggest that diets more closely aligned with dietary recommendations could offer benefits beyond health alone. By reducing reliance on several foods particularly exposed to recent price pressures, healthier diets could help protect households against future food inflation.

Chris Jaccarini, Senior Economist ECIU, said: “People are already eating less meat and our analysis suggests that eating a balanced diet, including less meat and chocolate, could offer some protection from climate-driven food inflation, though it’s not a silver bullet..."
