Algorithms killed the spectrum of emotional valences. Everything now is set to 10. Bring back the eyeroll, the exasperated sigh, the hand wave, the shoulder shrug. Some stuff is just mildly annoying or blandly dumb. You don’t need to blow every emotional outburst on the mundane.

while she's certainly a malicious bigot with active intent to make the lives of trans people worse, i'm skeptical of theories that require JKR herself to mastermind any kind of coherent multi-year plot against us. i read those last few books, she's not capable of that

"culture war" is a useful framing for reactionaries because it allows them to present the very concept of equal protection under the law as specious or distracting from the "real problems"

Robin Ince@robinince.bsky.social

So often what are called “culture wars” are one set of people saying “please can we live without perpetual persecution” and another saying “no, f*** you” but the press considering the latter group have “legitimate concerns” and must be perpetually platformed

Heartbreaking hearing that the woman who Platner raped was hesitant to come forward because she agreed with his politics and didn’t want to damage the movement. If you didn’t already realize, this sort of thing happens a lot you just don’t usually hear about it

what if i told you that botanically, "vegetables" don't exist? fruits are the product of a flower of a plant but there is no singular classification for a vegetable because it could be any part of a plant that is edible

Dr Dean Burnett@drdeanburnett.bsky.social

Is there some reason why 'The tomato is actually fruit, not a vegetable!' has been a go-to revelation for decades, while the fact that the exact same applies to the cucumber, its unshakable comrade-in-salad, is never brought up?

Yesterday @reified-systems.itch.io pointed out that Basil's face from this Fawlty Towers VHS collection is nearly exactly The Expression from Disco Elysium, and my mind is blown. I genuinely think this may be the original inspiration! So many details match up

Robin-Yann Storm@rystorm.com

Just checking, does anyone want an entire Fawlty Towers VHS set for €4.99?

It’s inaccurate to say Mario is brave and Luigi is cowardly Luigi is afraid of death, so he runs away from danger. Mario is afraid of living, so he runs towards death. Both brothers are cowards in their own way

the massive Stake clipping industrial complex convinced every legacy media outlet and television show on the planet to talk about Clavicular because journalists can't figure out that the KickChamp5000 account posting 30 times in the last 24 hours might not be authentic

i have flipped my perspective on how to best produce content online. my advice is now livestream on 8 websites and viewbot every broadcast. followbot all accounts. discord and group chat vote manipulate all posts. astroturf every platform with clips. no one cares anymore or is too dumb to notice

i wonder if "we have money to blow up children in other countries but not to take care of yours" is the kind of message the democrats could use to make a point

FactPost@factpostnews.bsky.social

Trump: We can't take care of daycare. We're a big country. We're fighting wars. It's not possible for us to take care of daycare, Medicaid, Medicare, all these things.

i mean i thought Dems would've gotten the message when a bunch of their colleagues and Trump cheered on a lynch mob that sacked the capitol trying to literally murder them but if they finally get it now, better late than never

Philip Bump@pbump.com

After pointing at Democrats and saying they are "crazy," Trump says, "We’re lucky we have a country, with people like this. Democrats are destroying our country, but we stopped it, just in the nick of time." Just insanely destructive. Indefensible — but Republicans stood and clapped.

tv shows should do what sports broadcasts do and thank new audiences that are just now joining them. every five minutes, all the actors should look at the screen, introduce themselves and their characters, and announce which of them is winning the show

People who call kids “bad” usually don’t know Fact One about child development. A lot—A LOT—of adults, despite their authority, want children to display more emotional maturity than they’ve ever modeled for them.

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

Everyone wants there to be a grand scheme behind all of this but the terrible truth is that extremely stupid people are in charge and they have a fanatical devotion to wrong, childlike concepts of society and economics cooked up by right wing radio hosts in order to sell tainted dietary supplements
