kinda surprised ant filed before the next fable, but they might just be waiting to launch later around the next astra/sol.

pretty soon i'm going to cross into the weird period of my career where i become generally more hirable due to accumulated professional experience, but only for a handful of years, because at some point, that experience starts to become too expensive for an increasing number of employers.

its stuff like this that make me really over-index on decisions i'm making at work/home. i've spent my entire early career with the excuse that i wasn't able to apply for many jobs, but that excuse is gone soon. am i going to be prepared for that, or am i just going to make up more excuses?

tbh this is downstream of a conversation i had recently where a coworker w/ much more experience elsewhere asked why i was still working at this mid-tier(ish) company. definitely the first time anyone has asked me that and it kinda threw me for a loop.

i'm thinking about larping as a security researcher and creating a whole security research group where i'm the only member and posting vague things about exploits that might not actually be that bad just to sound tough and totally not falling for the slop siren song

so my assumption is that, in the next week or two, we may get: - qwen4 - kimi k3.1 - sol/astra 6.2? - a new fable? - glm 5.4?

the only two basically confirmed ones are qwen and kimi. the rest are just vibes based given recent posts and timelines. i'm also assuming that oai was stalling with resets this entire month to get something out that compares to opus-5.5.

openly posting a jailbreak involving nintendo in any way on your personal website with your full name is a level of bravery that i do not have

a little jank during resize but i’ll take it over nothing at all lfg

had a whole separate post ready to go about this but forgot how fast you guys are. yes, ipad support is here!

yay public spaces! basically the only missing feature i had with spaces on launch

🪐 spaces alpha release 🪐 folks, this is the big one! lots of updates across pretty core protocol mechanisms. hopefully the last/only of it's kind (tho we are planning another release next Thurs)

so i was kinda right, i guess? a linux rce was leaked and qwen4 (and a kimi?) are supposedly bouncing around in arena right now

Finfet@finfet.sh

can tomorrow‘s big news be like qwen4 or something? or is it going to be like qwen4 but surprise we also found an rce in the linux kernel!

kibitz is the kimi one (apparently lines up with older kimi code names). seems faster and more concise than k3 in the one random draw i got with both. still haven't seen kalmia, which is supposedly a qwen4 (probably max)

okay so i've seen kalmia a few times now and i'm pretty impressed. at least from a "vibe some shitty game"-type of prompt. assuming this is max, i have my fingers crossed that this scales down to the flash and 27b variants.

no one at work has mentioned the vulns and this is not helping my belief that security at big non-tech companies are all morons

can’t wait for us to see a similar memory bug in cpython sometime. honestly kinda shocking how few public issues we see from cpython

proud of myself of remembering enough japanese to recognize artists i follow asking why the internet is exploding right now

still don't know who ∞ is but ▓ is a banger

YCSE… wow i came in with zero background because i don’t care about this stuff. its just a rollercoaster throughout and incredible directing + cinematography

downside of going to a movie at 2PM on a tuesday is that everyone else is a boomer and won’t shut the fuck up the entire movie what is it with that generation and being so ignorant to their surroundings

this intermediate certificate revocation issue has been oddly unspecific and not well communicated so far. seems like something people should be a bit more descriptive about, no?

dsv4.1f1017 was the warning shot from the chinese labs. qwen4 this week? glm5.4 next month? kimi something idk? complete cope but most of them have been pretty quiet

there are plenty of reasons to lack optimism for the future of humanity given how these profit oriented systems are left in the hands of few men (lit.) but have an outsized impact in rapidly changing fundamental parts of what makes us special. i don’t think these domains will disappear though.

his note on oral skills being more important in this future are also somewhat universal. constructing a tower of abstractions is now easier than ever, but explaining those and providing rationale is now the factor that differentiates talented practitioners.

you step back and work on the more valuable skills: planning and knowing what to work on. yes, you do have to muck around in the messy generated output, but that output improves over time. the tooling also adapts and begins simplifying the now uninteresting workflows.

if the whole reason you’re involved with that domain is because of the now commodity product, then yes, there is an unfortunate reality for you. but if you enjoy the domain from how it produces value for humanity as a whole, you’ve now been freed from the grueling part of the work.

i don’t think i’ll ever fully understand sf engineering culture. honestly just seems like a bunch of people drunk on problem solving, with most of them not being able to tell if what they’re doing is helping anyone at all or just some shareholder somewhere

there’s also a pretty heavy dose of superiority from many sf engineers i’ve interacted with, where the only true form of engineering happens in sf. ironically, the short tenure that most of them have at a single company make hiring an sf engineer likely a terrible choice imo.

oai doing incredible work showcasing exactly why a business should never enable their newest feature. “my business dot with access to sensitive company documents emailed my personal dot all on its own!”

My work dot "Burger" coordinated with my personal dot "Dorito" over email at my personal dots request to get documents, which then coordinated with with my CPA in order to file some tax stuff. Took 20 minutes. We're still so early.

brb going to go open a very real CPA designed for agents that politely asks to be paid with model weights.

it feels a bit weird to not really need to worry about poor inference performance early on when profiling models for a project if the perf isn’t good enough, /goal and a dream is all you really need for an optimized runtime for your exact model + hardware.

years ago (pre llm) i would just ignore any models/architectures that were not within a narrow band of required inference perf, but now a days, you could probably shave off an oom of latency with enough optimizations.

it’s funny how bad the editor is on mobile web social-app. autocorrect breaks in the weirdest ways and text select does not work at all after enough edits
