Seen this story all day today. Every headline says "27 year old Minnesota man..." I have yet to see one with the headline that the man was Somalian. The most maligned and denigrated group in Minnesota www.goodmorningamerica.com/news/story/2...

Yes! We need to put more emphasis on, "This is a cool thing! Let me tell you about it!"
"It’s time we rethink what outreach in organic chemistry can look like. We often focus on K–12 students, as we should. But there is another audience we may be overlooking: intellectually curious adults who simply want to learn about our field." #chemsky 🧪

Paging @tanyahuff.bsky.social At least it's not Human's First.
Conservative activists from a group called Humans First, completed an over 8,000-mile road trip to advocate for better guardrails on data center construction and AI.

It's so wild and wonderful that this robot has been wandering around Mars for FOURTEEN YEARS and we get to watch it trundle about and poke rocks and send home postcards. ❤️ science.nasa.gov/photojournal...

Something weirdly not noted in a lot of the coverage of the extortionate threats to murder the Kennedy Center unless it’s reimagined as a shrine to Trump: There was no dire fiscal crisis until Trump’s goombahs started mucking with it. Its finances were fine. projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/o...
One of Twin Metals' minerals leases has been CANCELED! #BWCA
🚨 BREAKING: The Minnesota DNR just canceled one of Twin Metals' state mineral leases. This is a HUGE win, and it happened because of YOU! Tens of thousands of you made calls and flooded the DNR's and the governor's inboxes, demanding action. Thank you for showing up for the Boundary Waters. 💚

I have about 20" of this. Besides being a beautiful necklace, it's fun to run it through my fingers and admire the various beads.
If you were contemplating buying a length of "The Waters of Twilight Are Endless", which is a thing sold by the inch, there may be no better time than right now, because it's half price, and that's the old price because I forgot to raise it when silver went up. www.etsy.com/listing/6273...
Wolves help propagate blueberries! A study done in northern MN discovered that passing through a wolf's digestive system helps the seeds germinate, and the wolves' range helps spread the seeds further. royalsocietypublishing.org/rsbl/article... www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

Executive order is a good start, but we need pass laws that will permanently protect the BWCA.
For years, we’ve been in a battle over the future of the Boundary Waters. Minnesotans have watched nervously as lawmakers and regulators have wrestled over whether or not to allow this beautiful place to be spoiled. I’m proud to say that uncertainty ends today.

We know that corvids are smart and have social cohesion. Sometimes they will volunteer for experiments, like the wild crow who decided to solve puzzles alongside trained birds. And sometimes they will tell the scientists to eff off. spacedaily.com/t-australian...
Unions are crucial for people who work in the arts!
Shoutout to dancers at Dallas Black Dance Theatre who won a union contract that raises their minimum weekly salaries and builds in pay increases throughout the contract period. This win is in spite of relentless union busting and retaliation, and shows yet again that we win when we unite!
"Xcel handles the groundskeeping with sheep, which graze beneath the arrays so nobody has to mow 1.7 million panels’ worth of grass."
Minnesota just plugged a 710-megawatt #solar farm into a coal plant that once burned 30,000 tons a day. The unique approach to connecting the panels to the grid allowed it to sidestep a typically years-long connection process.

This fancy fellow showed up in our neighborhood not long after I read the short story "Marginalia," which I think is by @maryrobinettekowal.com.
This meteor shower is really fun - you can reliably see a shooting star per minute at the peak.
I was gonna shit talk this because every year COULD BE, but this website posts here so I'll give it some slack. Conditions will be solid this year but I know many of my favorite sky seekers on here constantly suffer from 100% cloud cover syndrome 😢
