A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

helenwebberley.comAre transgender sports bans really about protecting women? | Dr Helen WebberleyThe data says no. Those most hostile to women are most in favour of banning trans athletes.

We must expect that Meta's interference is happening in other elections around the world *right now*. This isn't just a one-off. Meta has proved repeatedly they are committed to advancing far-right agendas worldwide, are serial liars, and are flagrantly indifferent to the dismantling of democracies.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

After over two years living in Montreal, I can safely say the family doctor situation is absolutely fucked. I FINALLY got a letter that I got one. But after weeks of trying, I haven't been able to contact them. Phone? Hangs up, no voicemail. Email? No reply. In person while 'open'? Door locked.

Another one. The premise: Young people are cutting off their parents for minor mistakes and misunderstandings. The lead anecdote: A woman severs ties with her family for refusing to get vaccinated before her wedding — to a man who *lost his mother and brother to COVID*

Every article has the same premise: Young people are characterizing their normal, happy childhoods as abusive and going "no contact" with their parents over minor disagreements. Every article also, late in the text, blithely acknowledges that this premise is false. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/14/h...

The tell is that there is panic about stock — the capital supposedly locked away — and no panic about flow — or how incomes aren’t even remotely keeping up with costs and can’t sustain all the political instability. www.npr.org/2026/05/28/n...

Email did to white collar work what the washing machine did to housework: creating as many problems as it solved. See, as Ruth Schwartz Cowan shows in More Work for Mother, washing machines made washing clothes much easier, but in the process, it also shifted cultural norms...

Netflix cleared $13.65 billion in net income this year. Up 33%. So naturally they’re celebrating by laying off 1,000 people. 6% of their workers that built those profits. All to save a little extra cash for shareholders. Apparently $13.65 billion isn’t enough for these ghouls.

My god, we actually have a huge story here in Québec (and the larger Francophonie up to a point), with Haitian-Québécois writer Thélyson Orélien being extremely “randomly” accused of writing his amazing and important best-seller using AI, with this accusation coming from an anonymous X account...

The Caine Prize is an award for African writers, judged by other African writers. As a Ghanaian/Nigerian-American, I've followed the Caine Prize for years-- I read African literature. The Atlantic article uses AI to justify overriding the judgment of African people reading their own literature.

Giving echoes of the British media's pile-on of Jason Arday, African writers are noticing how the BBC (which didn't cover the original announcement of this year's award) is now covering the AI "scandal".

Instead of standing by Kundieza, the Caine Prize put on its *home page* that it would be investigating. All because of one article, written by a Canadian-American writer who used Pangram to scan Kundieza's work.

Simbarashe Kundizeza won the Caine Prize this year. The author of this Atlantic article wrote that it *seems* Kundieza used AI, based on one Pangram scan. There is no comment from Kundieza. Are AI-fueled accusations lowering the bar for journalistic ethics now? x.com/TheAtlantic/...
