"Premier Smith now has a clear path, with help from Prime Minister Mark Carney, to build more pipelines, strip away workers’ rights, and ensure the corporate class makes more profit than ever all with the help of immigrants and refugees serving as convenient scapegoats when things go sour."

Well worth a read. "What they cannot ignore is that Smith and the far-right conservative movement is unlikely to be defeated unless there is a concerted effort to organize around the material interests that unite working people, regardless of their immigration status."

Jeffrey Rath and Mitch Sylvestre were terminated from their roles with the Alberta Prosperity Project "with cause" in September. This is particularly strange, since both men were at the group's referendum watch party and spoke to media on its behalf.

Sylvestre is addressing APP supporters on Zoom rn. He says that Tanya Clemens and Chris Scott, who are aren't board members, are falsely claiming that they fired Sylvestre and Rath last month.

Yes, defeating the separatists is a win. But a majority of Albertans just voted to restrict access to healthcare & education for our immigrant neighbours, which will have real consequences for vulnerable communities across the province. Scapegoating, racism & bigotry is the real winner here. #ABLeg

Alberta’s separatists aren’t done — but some are done with Danielle Smith By @readtheorchard.org www.nationalobserver.com/2026/10/20/n...

Few, if any, Canadian commentators are as adept at debunking the Alberta perpetual grievance complex as Max

The separatists are going to lose today’s vote. But if Alberta’s political class doesn’t stop feeding and inflaming their bottomless sense of grievance and victimhood, we’ll all end up losing in the end. #abpoli www.nationalobserver.com/2026/10/19/o...

Story has been updated with more back story and the surveillance stills captured at the scene. Also, for the record, Progress Report and Press Progress are not the same thing.

STORY, updates to come: Edmonton former journalist Duncan Kinney has admitted to spray painting a bust of Ukrainian World War II leader Roman Shukhevych with the words "actual Nazi," then writing about it, claiming he didn't know who did it. edmontonjournal.com/news/crime/d...

For five years, Kinney knew there were CCTV cameras on the premises of the Ukrainian Youth Unity Complex. I know this because he did a story on them three weeks after he did the vandalism.

BREAKING: Duncan Kinney has pled guilty to mischief in relation to the vandalism of the bust of Roman Shukhevych outside the Ukrainian Youth Unity Complex in August 2021.

According to the agreed statement of facts, he was caught on CCTV spray painting "actual Nazi" on the statue at night, and returned to take photos of it in the morning.

Completely anecdotally this checks out. The number of people I know who are very firmly in the remain camp but also blame all our problems on immigrants is way higher than I'd like it to be

Research Co. has a new poll that looks at all 10 questions in tomorrow's referendum. Three-quarters support for remain, but the other results are varying degrees of distressing.
