Thinking about how necessary (and lacking) the work of cultural mediation in videogames and digital literature is, like what @ramadaprieto.bsky.social is doing.

Three More Years@threemoreyears.bsky.social

The second workshop day in this context has brought a surprising amount of nuance to this argument. While talking about cybernetics and feedback loops, students voiced a well formed argument that most videogames (in this moment in time) are focused on keeping you playing. Something we associate...

"A day as an engineer in a chip factory" is trending in Taiwan. Fab24hr is a work simulator where you play one of several semiconductor engineer roles in a blocky isometric 3D factory. The game is so realistic that it resonates with fab workers — some have likened it to "a horror game" fab24hr.com

Steam Next Fest still going on ⬇️ I also have a mobile version of the game. It's always been my plan and design focus to release for mobile also, and it runs and looks pretty good on iPad-like devices. If you'd like to help test that, send me a message or join our discord: linktr.ee/offscore

Hey blue sky! If you are curious about "song" games, you should check our demo and consider wishlisting us on Steam! @offscore.bsky.social has seen many years of iteration and development, but I'm happy to say we are almost there and we'll release very soon! store.steampowered.com/app/1355000

Protecting democracy and freedom means safeguarding an environment in which diverse voices can be heard. Voters need to vote for candidates who support diverse communities and promote gender equality policies in November’s local elections. 🇹🇼 A guide to 186 queer-friendly candidates: pridewatch.tw

It's a very short demo (5 minutes) which includes our song "Elephants Remember". Give it a play if you haven't! Share with your friends!! I guarantee it's better than any of the AI Slop demos you can find this year on the Next Fest!!!

i wrote about how to make a logo without using gen-ai because someone asked me to check a logo they made with gen-ai and i felt like we really don't need to gatekeep this kind of knowledge to the people who're too broke to afford a graphic designer. docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Since you're preaching, let me hop in. Games on capitalism require a restricted platform that has controlled distribution, lest the devs wish to starve and die. Making a living off of games is antithesis to game preservation. Which, I cannot stress this enough, sucks ass and we need to fight it

I keep preaching about it, but the HTML5 web browser is the most reliable and stable platform for video games (past and future), and most game developers don't care. Mobile web browsers are the biggest reach you can have with your game by far. Don't ask me how to make a living out of it though 🙊

i do think it’s funny that your games stand to have a longer life span if you make them in “dead” technologies, rather than using modern tools. like DOS games, Flash, gameboy, snes… all have emulation and continue on indefinitely. the lates UE games likely won’t.

Yesterday was my birthday. We also got to see a perfectly visible total solar-eclipse from my hometown, Deltebre. It's a pretty nice triple coincidence and this is a photo of me with 2 projected suns midway through showing how happy I was that I got to be there. Thanks for that universe!

We got to watch the solar corona with the naked eye, including 2 perfectly visible red solar prominences was actually mindblowing and I totally get why there are eclipse hunters because I really want to see that again.

Another highlight was that we got to see the moon's shadow over the sky quite clearly in the far mountains and clouds, because we had amazing visibility in all directions from the middle of the delta. Very grateful!

I think in the context of making videogames this is mainly a consequence of video games becoming commercial pop culture, and that we should address it by doing _any_ curational, librarian & educational work around digital culture, specially towards younger people learning about art & literature

In the context of generational issues I agree with comments about how we are mostly dealing with our problems in a very self-centered way, out of trauma, nostalgia and defeatism. There is no way to make our lifes better if we don't help people who have it worse with their problems.

On high alert as Typhoon Bavi heads for Taiwan, authorities monitor three active barrier lakes, the latest of which formed just last month due to heavy rainfall, applying lessons learned from Hualien's catastrophic floods last autumn: qlakenew.forest.gov.tw/FarmlandQlak... bsky.app/profile/word...

A typhoon triggered a landslide in #Taiwan, damming up a river to create a mountain lagoon, only for two more typhoons to bring more rain to the remote highlands, leading to a catastrophic overflow. Over 15.4 million tonnes of water, which would fill 6,000 Olympic-size swimming pools, galloped down.

The thing about video games is you can make them as art that you're making for art's sake, or you can make them as commercial products that you mean to sell to make money; but what will really cause you grief is setting out to do one while convincing yourself you're doing the other.
