Voters feeling less disenfranchised and showing up more is another strong evidence why we need electoral reform towards proportional representation (which can also be ranked-choice at the same time too)

Talking about proportional representation would be a smart move. It paints you as transformational, sets you apart from rivals, and promises to prevent scandal-ridden governments like Fordโ€™s from winning absolute power without majority support ever again. www.thestar.com/politics/pro...

Seems like PR would be a good idea, period. Conservatives that don't like corruption could vote for Progressive Tory. Progressives that think NDP is too fossil fuel friendly could vote Green.

First-past-the-post forces Albertaโ€™s entire right wing into a single party just to win elections. Under proportional representation, Pro-Canada Conservatives wouldn't be stuck sharing a party with separatists, giving Albertans a real choice in who represents them. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

People can vote for whoever they want, that's democracy. You didn't care about vote-splitting with the BC Greens when you rejected the all-party recommendation for an electoral reform citizens' assembly. You had your chance to reform the system, so whatever happens on election day is on you.

David Eby@davidebybc.bsky.social

Supporters of the BC NDP and the Green Party share a lot of the same values. Strong public health care, protecting the place we call home, and asking the wealthiest to chip in more to build a stronger B.C.

Fordโ€™s bike lane removal ignores facts; under first-past-the-post, he can scapegoat opposition ridings for his scandals and failings without risking his majority. Proportional representation makes every vote count, stopping governments from steamrolling communities without electoral consequences.

Toronto Star@thestar.com

As Premier Doug Ford readied his war on bike lanes, provincial bureaucrats raised facts refuting his core arguments and had to call in extra staff to deal with a blizzard of public feedback, according to internal records obtained by the Star.

Less than a year after rejecting an all-party recommendation for an electoral reform citizen's assembly, David Eby is begging BC Greens to bail out the NDP, while keeping electoral reform off the table. See our write-up on this political cynicism: www.fairvote.ca/19/10/2026/d...

fairvote.caDavid Eby's last minute plea not to vote Green shows the voting system is broken. He could commit to fixing it.Itโ€™s not too late for David Eby and the BC NDP to commit to act on the recommendations of BCโ€™s all-party committee on Democratic and Electoral Reform.

Alberta's vote is over, but first-past-the-post keeps separation alive: it gives a separatist-leaning UCP disproportionate power provincially and locks in near one-party opposition to Ottawa federally. Proportional representation breaks this two-party trap and restores balance at both levels.

As Alberta votes on separation, remember "Western Alienation" grew after '80 when Liberals won a majority without seats west of MB & imposed the NEP. Proportional representation would end distorted results painting entire provinces as one-party monoliths shut out of power.

You rejected a citizens' assembly on electoral reform less than a year ago and told Greens to "go out and campaign for it." Now that they are, you're begging them to stop. Fix our distorted voting system instead of asking voters to abandon their values.

David Eby@davidebybc.bsky.social

If youโ€™ve voted Green in the past, Iโ€™m asking for your support in this election. In 11 seats last time, the Green vote was the difference between electing a Conservative and electing a New Democrat.

If you're a Alberta Liberal with a CPC MP, Toronto Conservative with a Liberal MP, or Quebec Federalist with a BQ MP, do you feel represented? Our single-winner system flattens diversity and deepens division. Proportional representation means you get the voice you vote for.

The George Massey crossing is a classic example of first-past-the-post policy lurch. Politicians winning majorities with 40% of the vote repeatedly scrap each other's plans as costs soar. Proportional representation builds consensus so infrastructure gets built. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

cbc.caB.C. Conservatives vow to scrap NDP's Massey Tunnel replacement, build bridge instead | CBC NewsThe B.C. Conservative Party says it will replace Metro Vancouver's aging George Massey Tunnel with a new 10-lane bridge, if elected.

Under first-past-the-post, Alberta looks like a one-party monolith hostile to Ottawa, ignoring over 600,000 Liberal voters. Proportional representation would end this divisive cycle, giving every voter a voice, from Alberta Liberals to Toronto Conservatives. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/alber...

theglobeandmail.comCarney urges Albertans to vote against separating from CanadaIn a Calgary speech, the Prime Minister spoke of the countryโ€™s strength when united and warned of the consequences of leaving Confederation

Like fixed-election laws, this policy won't work. The fix is ending first-past-the-post so leaders aren't tempted to call elections whenever polls show 40% of the vote promises an increased majority. Proportional representation removes that incentive, fostering cooperation instead.

I wish @quebecsolidaire.bsky.social would stop putting the cart before the horse and do this. Every election they get half the seats they should, if they put a pin in the 100 item socialist wish list and elevated electoral reform to the top they could be twice as influential from that point on [โ€ฆ]

Great to see @emilylowan.bsky.social raise proportional representation twice during last night's debate! First-past-the-post locks us into hyper-polarized two party politics that traps voters into feeling they must vote out of fear instead of their values. Check out her answers here!

I love proportional representation

Great to see @bcgreens.bsky.social commit to proportional representation! Eby rejected an all-party committeeโ€™s citizensโ€™ assembly recommendation then called a snap election for a bigger majority. Now polling shows that backfiring, leaving the race in the hands of a few swing ridings.

Just like in Ontario and Nova Scotia, first-past-the-post encourages politicians to pull the trigger on early elections when a larger majority with 30-40% of the vote seems within reach. Proportional representation removes this incentive, encouraging stable cooperation instead.

Proportional Representation is more democratic. FPTP must go.

Under first-past-the-post, minority governments are inherently unstable because parties constantly eye seeking early elections the moment ~35% polling puts a majority within reach. Proportional representation eliminates that jackpot, encouraging long-term cooperation instead.

Replying to @fairvote.ca

Great article and couldn't agree more. Among other injustices, the Green Party of Canada never got any of the representation we deserved from 4 to 6% national support (at peak). And of course Trudeau broke his promise to enact it when he could have.

I want proportional representation so badly in Canada. I like the decentralization of power, the forced cooperation between differing parties, and the way it gives APPROPRIATE voice to the the nuts on far left/right without ignoring them completely or giving them too much power. PR, LFG!

In an excellent article for the Observer, @maxfawcett.bsky.social explains why Mark Carney should use his political capital to deliver proportional representation. Quebec just proved how first-past-the-post distorts results across parties. Read it here! www.nationalobserver.com/2026/10/08/o...

If the threat of PQ eventually pushing forward with a referendum on separation with 30% mandate from the voters doesn't get @mark-carney.bsky.social to act on #ProportionalRepresentation, I don't know what will.

Spot on from @acoyne.bsky.social on CBC. First-past-the-post means a separatist party can win a majority with 30% and plunge us into a unity threatening separation referendum. Proportional representation means such decisions require broad majority consensus, not the whims of one party.
