Just a reminder that there is no good data to support these uses in K12, we are just testing it live all on kids who won’t ever be these ages again and can’t get them back if we fuck it up.

"AI can draft an essay for you, especially if you give it a high quality prompt." Really? This is what MIT thinks high schoolers should learn? MIT's "Day of AI" dayofai.org provides materials for K-12 teachers and claims to have reached over 5,000,000 students to date. 1/2

"These tools, which can only do what they do because of the work of others, are already there, so, you know, obviously you have to use them instead of paying those others to actually do the work they do."

If we had thought for one second that our dystopian metal death machines would be used for evil we never would’ve made them and then released videos showing how terrifying they are

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'

Turns out you can, in fact, start to look elsewhere when a company or supplier or partner proves itself to be unreliable or untrustworthy. In fact we all can and should be doing this, all the time.

🇨🇦 Mark Carney says he’s "concerned" about Starlink slowdown in Ukraine, which led to human casualties and reduced Ukraine’s ability to defend itself. He says Canada can’t rely on a single provider that could flip like that and put Canadians at risk, so he’s going to diversify.

"AI" is not a tool of empowerment. It is a tool of control.

“Palantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp states ‘AI will undermine the influence of highly educated, often female voters and give it to working class men. We have feminine energy running our cities and our courts,’ he complained.”

New SEC filings show that Mark Zuckerberg is preparing to pay California’s billionaire tax without losing control of Meta. So billionaires can afford to pay the tax? And they won't lose control of their companies or flee the state? Don’t fall for billionaires’ propaganda. Vote YES on Prop 40.

It's called film "footage" because camera operators initially held the cameras with their feet. That changed after a film shoot in 1931, when an operator got a foot cramp and was forced to hold the camera in his hands. The "footage" he got that day was extraordinary. That man's name? Hans Cameraman.

We're all going to be dealing a lot more of this in the future. Chances are you've already had some version of this conversation with someone. "You just have to know how to ask the right questions." Our own brains fill in all of the "I" part of "AI": given free rein, the sky is the delusional limit.

Like seriously, if you don't want your program to do Something Bad, don't write the code/make the connection/enable the permissions to let it do Something Bad.

What they're truly selling here is the nudge-and-a-wink promise that you are the only incapable dumbass who's going to use this to make yourself look good — yes this, their pervasive, perpetually overpromising technology they are trying desperately to shove in front of every last living human being.

Don't let billionaires convince you slop is the future. They're used to managing & directing, not making things themselves. Of course they can't see the difference. They don't understand your love for the craft. Keep making personal, beautiful games. You've got my support 💖

Just curious if anyone can read this article and have any response other than "Fuck these thieving assholes."

Meta took down the No Kings instagram; TikTok banned the Musk documentary account for supposedly violating its political posting policies. Apparently at around 1:30 PM ET, the main accounts for the No Kings coalition on Instagram were frozen and pulled down. Admins have lost access to the account and are unable to log in. This happened at the peak of the organization's national day of action. Instagram, of course, is owned by Meta.

Making robots to do things — vacuum floors, assemble cars, etc. — is not a bad idea. Being hell-bent on making them looking human while doing it is pretty fucking weird though.

People should not underestimate what an important role curation will play in the future of media and information. Companies, in their relentless quest to squeeze out profit, have destroyed the useful free internet. "AI" makes text and images suspect in their origin. There is only one solution.

Today Fade In is unveiling the next generation of Fade In, which will fix your second-act problems, come up with better character names, and give you a happy ending. All without AI. Production is scheduled to begin in 2037. Tech/fin press and eager investors, please form an orderly line.

Well, one thing to know I guess is that his *last* generation Roadster EV was "introduced" in 2017, when Tesla began taking deposits at $50K per. It still hasn't begun production. But little quibbles like that are of no concern to the tech/fin press.

I used to go to a dentist, and she always remembered different parts of my life I had mentioned, and it made me feel very good about the dentist, and then I realized she kept notes on all her patients on stickies on their files, and she was just reading from the notes. Neat trick. Good marketing.

“but they remember things” nope! llms do not remember anything. the chatbot has an app layer between you and it that stores “memories” aka database records, and injects them into the conversation in a way that is hidden from you not unlike a data broker + a phone scammer

A SpudCell can grow, copy its DNA, divide in two, and start its cell cycle all over again. But this cell is made by people, created from lifeless ingredients. They may one day produce new medicines and materials. But first scientists have to improve them — and make sure they aren’t misused.

"AI" is a technology of the now. Does it pollute the creation of new creative work? Absolutely. Does it hamper current neophytes from becoming future experts? Without any doubt. Do any of these "AI" hucksters care one thing about any of that beyond their IPO date? They very much fucking do not.
