WOW on Pretti's denial of medical treatment "I informed the ICE agents that I am a physician, and I asked to assess the victim. At first, the ICE agents wouldn't let me through. ... But none of the ICE agents who were near the victim were performing CPR, ... None of the agents were helping him."

I remember gawking over the sample new @mbta.com Red Line car at Government Center in 2018. 7 years and a move out of Boston later, I FINALLY got to ride one yesterday and it was AMAZING 🤩 Definitely top ten experiences of the year.

😳 but also 🤩 (for the science) This feels like it could _easily_ be a Spooky Lakes video.

OK, this is wild. In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them. It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*. What the HELL? 1/

Hey, so, just thinking: - USAID was heavily involved in South Africa and helped black S. Africans overcome decades of violent oppression under apartheid - Afrikaners and others violently subjugated blacks in S. Africa until 1994 - Elon Musk is S. African Yeah, you’re right; just a coincidence.

Listening to Billy Bragg tonight and this hit really hard. “Freedom is merely privilege extended unless enjoyed by one and all.”

Honest question: at what point is a judge going to say “the US government cannot be trusted to respect the rights of those in its custody” and halt ALL deportations until they are validated by a judge? Is that even a possibility? It’s not perfect, but it might be better.

Shopping for EVs in the US is infuriating. It’s a process of finding a super cool option that’s not huge and is significantly cheaper than other options and then finding out they don’t sell it here.

We decided to watch “School of Rock” last night because it has “Minecraft Steve in it” (I know…It is what it is) and I decided to google a bit and, yall, the little singer girl just got married to the big security guard boy /in real life/. She’s a OBGYN sonographer and he’s a music industry lawyer.

Look, let’s be real. The only reason I’m buying the Oblivion remaster is because I’ve run out of Skyrim remasters to play.

Someone once said NextDoor is the social network for dogs if they could type. It’s always “what’s that noise?” and “who’s that stranger?” which is exactly what I imagine my dogs would text other neighborhood dogs.

The best part of today was meeting a husky-malamute mix at a #HandsOff protest. Every time a car went past and honked, she howled 🐕 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ ✊ 🍞 🌹 10/10 excellent doggo and ally

The biggest thing we need to do is let people know that the protests are FUN. Yelling fuck the man is fun. You will meet fun people. We also need to make them more fun. Bring grills like the French. Bring instruments like it’s Mardi Gras. Give people a reason to spend their weekend in the streets.

i would like articles about layoffs to acknowledge if the ceo took a paycut or not. i know the answer is typically no, but i think journalists should make them say so

Not a historian, but to my knowledge, this is the first time a sitting US Senator — or member of Congress, generally — or perhaps any senior US gov’t official — has included an f-bomb in an official press release. www.duckworth.senate.gov/news/press-r...

I don’t think people talk enough about what a great piece of software IRS Direct File is. Honestly. The UX is clean, clear, and goes out of its way to explain to you what you paid, why, and how much you get back. Taxes shouldn’t feel like a black box. Huge kudos to the team that made this.

The standard for morals in the Republican Party has disappeared. When Alberto Gonzales, who famously justified torture, is criticizing the pardoning of Jan 6 insurrectionists as morally wrong, you can’t even pretend to be doing the right thing.

(Yes, this was obvious before, but my millennial brain was shocked to hear a man I thought was evil twenty years ago calling this out)

I am really frustrated that the press is discussing the destruction of USAID as something that has happened rather than an illegal action that will likely be undone in two weeks when courts tell the world that it was illegal.
