Some great investigative reporting here, from @woolsox.bsky.social. Really worth a read.

I get that people don't like "doomerist", but when it comes to the current GenAI that we are being sold, there is no upside for education. Education is supposed to be hard. You don't go to the gym and replace your weights with Styrofoam so you get your reps done faster. That's GenAI but for you mind
Here in Ohio were are hitting maximum "Democrats eat babies" ads. Good times! youtu.be/MTqOM6pEhbM?...

AI allows you to be "productive" by offloading the thinking to someone else (and it's not the LLM), part 1.
Harvard just dropped a study AI productivity in software engineering and it found the average increase in productivity from using Claude code is.....zero and for exactly the reasons you'd think fion.ac/jellyfish.pdf

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”
"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.
Maybe @jfruh.bsky.social knows this but ... what 1980s/1990s comic featured the main character conversing with the 900 foot Jesus? I can't remember and it is driving me nuts (and yes, I know it is an Oral Roberts rather than Jim Bakker thing but whatever).

So, great for making a list of the biggest science questions but maybe ask more than one scientist ((Tufts, and it has a grad school) at a liberal arts college? Science happens at liberal arts colleges. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/05/s...

📻 To celebrate College Radio Day, tune in to more than a century of college radio history. In 1906, Harvard students formed what was described as the first college radio club. By the 1920s, students were building stations and broadcasting campus events. 📚 More: blog.archive.org/2026/10/02/1... 🧵
Say it with me folks: people shouldn't be forced to prove they aren't using AI. Instead, AI users should be forced to clearly label their slop as such. (Sorry, that might be hard to say in unison. I'm bad at slogans.)
The rush to accuse, without anything approaching due diligence, artists of using "AI," should be treated with contempt. An artist gets their work *ripped off* to train a plagiarism machine, which then shits out inferior versions of that work, so then you accuse the artist of using "AI"? Fuck you.
The Pope has this one figured out. The distinction between AI art (and by extension, any AI "creative or intellectual" product) is so clearly elucidated in this brief statement. Folks who say otherwise might want to question their understanding of humanity.
This really cheared my Friday: Paleoartists you are supported even by the pope 👇 #Paleobio
