I really just think that there has never been a more important time to continue to make art and tell stories. Go write a story. Go make music. Go put on a play. Creativity is implicitly human and anti-fascist. Come on, everyone. Let's go fucking make stuff.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

This is fun - to find out your wizard name, carefully write out your real current name then right after that add “the Wizard.” We did this at a party last week and had some big laughs.

Oh it's the brewing industry.

I'm in a play right now (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead - one of my favorite plays ever!) and I have the distinction of being one of 4 people in the cast that are over 45 and today I had a realization.

I know these people - I see my younger self in their actions and attitudes constantly. Sure, that's also frustrating at times, but it's also very freeing! I'm just an insane reflection of body horror to them. A decaying future that they can't see themselves in. It's awesome!

It's way more awkward for the 20-somethings to interact with me than it is for me to interact with them! Because to them I'm like.. their dad's age or something (they don't know!) and they have no idea what to talk to me about. But, I've been at least 26 for half my life! It's so easy on this end!

(1/X) Yesterday, Trump posted a snuff video of a man being killed by a tiger and cut off Ukraine's access to Starlink. If a Democratic president had at any point done either of those things, there would have been big political blowback. For Trump, there will be none, zero, nada....

Do you know what the theme of this week is? It’s “if X could do Y, X would already be doing it.” If Trump could ”hurt” Biden / end the war, he’d already be doing it. If Republicans could “fix” Obamacare, they’d already be doing it. If AI could bring about prosperity, it would already be doing it.

Hey internet. I need your help. I've been buying MeUndies boxer briefs for years. Not for the subscription model or the quality. Like, the soft material is nice but it doesn't last forever. It's fine.

Men's fashion SUCKS. It's boring and monochromatic. This was my way of at least knowing that underneath my solid color clothes I had belugas on or something. Now MeUndies has announced their Harry Potter line and I quite simply refuse to give them any more of my money.

So help me, internet! Where do I shop for fun but relatively inexpensive underwear (or other clothes for that matter) that isn't funding transphobic bullshit?

What I like about them is that I, as a 50 year old cis het man, can have a fun pair and underwear. I don't need whatever gun metal action grip bullshit sells to most men these days. Give me some dinosaurs or otters in space or whatever. It's fun.

genAI discourse drives me nuts “putting aside that the tech needs to steal from every artist with an explicit goal of competing with and devaluing them, I think using it speeds up my programming!” back up, chucklefuck, what was that first bit again?

This is true. Men don't talk about it much, I guess maybe out of shame or fear of exclusion or something. I guess I'm old enough now that I don't care if I don't make any more male friends than I already have. This bullshit has been true everywhere in my whole life.

I believe fraternity hazing and military hazing and sports team hazing where men abuse each other is acclimating them into a broader culture of abuse where they will then believe it is their right to abuse other more vulnerable people. It’s so insidious. And that’s also why I think men defend it

Just like in our government, until there is actually real accountability for actions and people are held responsible and not just merely inconvenienced for the awful shit they do this will never stop.

Every one of these kids involved at Cornell should be held deeply responsible for their actions or inaction. Forever. Never let them live it down. The Hellenic system at Universities should be abolished. Hazing is abusive and should be illegal. Tear this whole fucking patriarchy apart.

At some point you realize that what we're really living in is a country of abusers and the abused. The very power dynamics of our government are built around the same social constructs abusers use to control their loved ones. Guess where they learned it.

As a man, I'm really tired of Not All Men. Because yeah, okay, it's not. I've learned better. Lots of men have. But it's always men. It's always fucking men. Even the safe ones weren't always safe and may not always be safe. Men are, at base, untrustworthy based on the actions of All Men.

I fully believe that no man, including myself, is free of some amount of guilt. We've all been quiet when we shouldn't be. We've all done something that has made a woman at the very least uncomfortable, if not scared. We've all done that jokey shit to buddies that perpetuated the entire culture.

And until you learn a modicum of empathy and that you're hurting people, that women - people - are legitimately scared and that shit like this gang rape is *common* and these fucking douchebag kids will probably never be held accountable it's really hard to start policing it in yourself.

It's exhausting. Men are largely trash and while I think it's heavily men on the political right it's certainly far from limited to it. As a man you're taught through experience that it's What You Do and every man has seen the built in defense mechanism of "it's not that serious." Except it is.

It's enormous amounts of peer pressure and there's a certain level where some men get away with so much terrible shit that there's always the underlying current of "Well if they're getting away with it, maybe...." It's all so fucking poisonous and pervasive and awful.
