Some people are into politics because they care about how policy impacts people. They like winning elections, and build coalitions to do so. Other people are into politics as aesthetics, because their stances make them feel edgy and superior. They like losing and complaining, and shun coalitions.
There’s a weird thing on this website and lots of left-wing subcultures, where people love to throw around “liberal” as an insult, but from what I can tell liberals voted overwhelmingly against Cuomo and are rallying behind Zohran now.

The whole idea of "antiwar" Trump has long rested on a confused reading of his hatred of multilateralism, the international order, and the Deep State. He doesn't hate those things for "dovish" reasons. He hates them for degenerate/corrupt reasons. Thoughts on that: newrepublic.com/article/1969...

When a public commentator sees a politician lie, it's better for them to point out that it's lie than to praise the liar, especially when that doesn't even accurately describe the politicians' actual rhetoric or record, but is something made up that sounds more appealing to the commentator.
expect tons of states to now outlaw gender affirming care for minors now
🚨By a 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court UPHOLDS Tennessee's ban on gender-affirming care for minors, concluding that it does NOT discriminate on the basis of sex, is not subject to heightened scrutiny, and survives rational basis review. All three liberals dissent. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

The central puzzle in American politics is why Republicans continue to win elections despite pursuing deeply unpopular policies. The simplest explanation is that issue positions don't matter nearly as much as we like to think they do. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Conservative protests are always treated as an organic cry of anger that manifests the distress of the unjustly ignored American heartland; protests from the center-left are always written off as noise from inside the bubble.
The Tea Party protests in April 2009 had about a third of a million people involved, and the political media treated it like a game changer for the Obama presidency. The No Kings rallies were AT LEAST ten times bigger than the Tea Party protests. Will the press keep pretending Trump is popular?

It’s unbelievable that a lot of news organisations keep reporting as if Trump is popular. He is not. His administration and his agenda are not.
Trump underwater in literally every single issue. 38% approval overall. 27% approval on his spending bill. 40% approval on deportations. Musk also at 30% approval. 38% approval for RFK Jr. 35% approval for JD Vance. Nobody fucking wants any of this. poll.qu.edu/poll-release...

If a Democratic president cut off one of the red states dependent on federal funding, it would be a political scandal. But cutting off California -- the single biggest "donor state" in the nation, one that sends in to the fed'l gov't ~$80 billion more than it gets back -- is straight-up theft.
(CNN) — The Trump administration is preparing to cancel a large swath of federal funding for California, an effort which could begin as soon as Friday, according to multiple sources. @cnn.com www.cnn.com/2025/06/06/p...

Yes, she says, we need more tradespeople - but not her. She means the plebs, you see. She went to St. Anselm's College (softball scholarship) and majored in communications and minored in poli sci.
Leavitt: "Electricians, plumbers -- we need more of those in our country, and less LGBTQ graduate majors from Harvard University. And that's what this administration's position is."
i'd say this describes most people who get into public office these days
Main character syndrome is a fun way to talk about selfishness but we have reached a point where a lot of serious jobs have been corrupted by rewarding people who are only interested in the attention (read The Sirens Call by @chrislhayes.bsky.social

Trump and RFK Jr. say today's kids are "the sickest generation in American history." Is that just a feeling? Here are some facts: About 46% of children born in the U.S. in 1800 did not live to see their 5th birthday. In 1900, the figure was 24%. Now it's under 1%.

Honestly this could be more threatening to the stability of the world than nuclear weapons
There's *a lot* going in the world, so it's understandable that folks wouldn't have the energy/bandwidth to reflect on the dangers posed by AI, but this is what concerns me most: the ability to produce what appears to be real video that looks convincing to most viewers. Pretty damn scary.

Far right books, podcasts, films, and streams absolutely dominates the online influence space. I appreciate any effort to push back at this - but influence doesn't come from donors, it comes from compelling stories and a consistent message. And it needs to be fun and entertaining as well.
NEWS: Democratic mega-donors are debating plans to spend tens of millions of dollars on a range of influencer plans to "find the liberal Rogan." We've got pitch decks, investor meetings, and internal docs. One Democrat has a spreadsheet of 26 different proposals. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/20/u...
you could easily make the argument that it's right wingers, like Ben, are the ones who are obsessed with cultural issues
Rep. Seth Moulton: " We have to show the American people we're gonna change. We're not just gonna be obsessed over cultural issues...We're gotta be a majority by welcoming more people into the party and showing that we can lead on issues that really matter to American voters."
