Postseason pitchers had a collective Stuff+ of 105 in the reg season (100 = ave). They've pushed it to 107 S+ in playoffs. There's a cost. Their 102 Location+ in regular season => 98 L+ in playoffs. Better hitters inspire worse locations. But could hard usage also be a factor?

Swing comp: Chase DeLauter and Trent Grisham. Both flat, similarly open, similar bat speed, two handed finishes. Nobody likes their swings. Effective enough though?

"Why doesn't he get whiffs if he has good Stuff?" Current models can be opaque in how they get to their conclusions. To combat this, we have developed a process to illustrate how and why a player's pitches are good/bad/neutral, based on our models. (1/8)

By ERA-, this ALWCS features the fourth-worst (Astros) and ninth-worst (White Sox) starting rotations among the 386 playoff teams since free agency began. It's the only time two bottom-ten teams have faced each other.

Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story. For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards. Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵

Changeups are supposed to be better against opposite handed hitters. This year, they aren’t. And guess which team has capitalized on a key insight from a statistical model about which changeups should be thrown to same handed hitters? t.co/cciLqIkBQX

Looked into new miss distance #s. Bigger pitches tougher to command, over the top angles miss target more often, & then there's the Twins.... last in Location+ but near top in miss distance. New @fangraphs.com: Position players pitching is far from the game's biggest problem, but nonetheless, with teams deploying the tactic more frequently than ever, it's time for MLB to revist the rules governing such usage.

Meetup at Is/Was brewing in Chicago next Friday (the 28th) starting around seven. Beer specials, Neapolitan pizza pop up, games on the projector! I’m in town to present a new agentic addition to the Pitching+ family at Saber Seminar, always a good time for baseball research. www.saberseminar.com

Took a look at what Cal Raleigh was doing at plate & it all looked the same except his approach was off. I suggested maybe just being aggressive on the outer third of the zone, and his three homers last night were outer third. Cal could turn it around on a dime: www.nytimes.com/athletic/753...

nytimes.comCal Raleigh may finally be hot. Here’s what ailed him all seasonRaleigh's mechanics haven't changed dramatically as he's struggled this season, but his approach has changed considerably for the worse.

Pete Crow-Armstrong's performance tonight -- featuring 2 HRs, 2B, 1B, BB, K, SB and 3 RBIs -- added 0.5 fWAR to his season total, which is wild. 12 qualified MLB hitters have produced an fWAR less than that this season, including Kyle Tucker (0.4).

Kyle Tucker has the second-largest reverse split (better on the road vs. home) by wRC+ of any hitter in the sport (h/t @enosarris.bsky.social). “I don’t think we have a reason behind it." “It could be a little bit of variance." More: www.nytimes.com/athletic/751...

Kyle Tucker has been Kyle Tucker...on the road. His struggles at home would make him the worst hitter in baseball. The Dodgers sat him today partially because he hasn't been able to hit at Dodger Stadium. Digging into the question and (lack of) answers: www.nytimes.com/athletic/751...
