Illinois enacted the strongest artificial intelligence safety and accountability bill in the nation. We need to take the threat that AI poses seriously, not just state by state, but on a federal level. The stakes are too high to sit around and do nothing — it’s time to act now.

Only an administration intent on committing war crimes in the present and future would stoop to calling Wounded Knee a "battle" rather than what it truly was: a massacre of over 250 Lakotas, mainly women, children, and the elderly. 1/

Charlie Kirk dehumanized trans people as “a throbbing middle finger to God.” That cruelty was infuriating. But Sarah McBride was right to condemn his assassination — political violence will not liberate trans people, it hurts us most. aridrennen.substack.com/p/when-viole...

Pretty clear that some places are just using current events as an excuse to get rid of people they weren't comfortable having around anyway. Darkness is coming, democracy is dying.

Some personal news: I've been fired from the Washington Post in the aftermath of the Charlie Kirk shooting. Thread incoming. substack.com/@karenattiah...

Pay attention. Something dark might be coming. The murder of Charlie Kirk could have united Americans to confront political violence. Instead, Trump and his anti-democratic radicals look to be readying a campaign to destroy dissent. 1/ Here's what's happening.

Stephen Miller: "The last message that Charlie Kirk gave to me before he joined his creator in heaven was he said that we have to dismantle and take on the radical left organizations in this country that are fomenting violence. That was the last message that he sent me ... we are gonna do that."

We're witnessing the most aggressive, fanatical crackdown on free speech in my lifetime. The speed and breadth of government censorship and private sector and nonprofit capitulation has been astonishing. As has the lack of urgency/silence from people who've long claimed to care about this stuff.

This is literally true, and I'm very worried about the implications of it. Even among what I consider to be relatively levelheaded associates (in non-political spheres), the conservatives are almost all Trumpers. The future of the GOP only gets Trumpier.

average leftist is annoying at worst average conservative under 40 these days is a groyper

Not to put too fine a point on it, but when the Nazis first started sending Jews and other victims to camps, they called it deportation, and the camps were technically in other countries.

You may not care, but I do. Is Trumpism driving a generation to leave this country? My daughter will study abroad next year and is already researching where to live and work internationally after graduation because of Trump. Same with some of her classmates. It breaks our hearts, but I get it.

HERO vs ZERO I'm in a state of shock & still trying to process yesterday's shameful, traitorous debacle in the WH: A DAY THAT WILL LIVE IN INFAMY. Our standing in the world has plummeted overnight, but the repercussions will be felt forevermore. #SlavaUkraini🇺🇦 #ShameOnUS🇺🇸

Loss of Civil Rights for millions of Americans is inconsequential according to the New York Times. There is no other American institution that has contributed more towards the erasure and systemic elimination of transgender people except maybe the heritage foundation. NYT, go fuck yourselves!!!

But what team is #Gabbard playing for? This advancement is terrifying to me, quite frankly. It would appear that Republicans don't just want to "remake" our government, they're willing to risk losing 🇺🇸 to foreign influence. 🚨It may seem hopeless, but call anyway! www.reuters.com/world/us/maj...

Will Gabbard exercise fidelity to the interests and safety of America? Former national security officials have serious doubts. Per their letter, "Following her trip to Syria, for example, Ms. Gabbard aligned herself with Russian and Syrian officials." Where, exactly, are Gabbard's loyalties?

Democrats need to learn how to treat real scandals with the same intensity and seriousness that Republicans use on bullshit like Hillary's emails and Hunter's laptop. Non-stop circus. Run shifts outside treasury, someone there 24/7. Make them prove they're not breaking the law.

Warren is the ranking member on the Senate Banking Committee. Wyden is the same on the Senate Finance Committee. They need to go to the Treasury building with crews from CNN and NBC and demand to be let in. As soon as they're not, hold a press conference right there and explain what DOGE is doing.

Excellent by @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social "If you’re always consumed by the next outrage, you can’t look closely at the last one. The impression of Trump’s power remains; the fact that he keeps stepping on rakes is missed. The projection of strength obscures the reality of weakness. Don’t believe him."

Our globalized world is built on cooperation, partnership and respect. Trump is interested in none of that. I hope our allies can band together and hold the line as Trump throws presidential tantrums for the next 4 years.

I support any country retaliating against the US with tariffs and would even encourage it. Trump has turned our nation into an unruly dog, biting at the other dogs in the dog park. The world needs to band together and put a muzzle on this dog.

We don't have much investigative reporting anymore. We just have reaction channels. For every one person out there actually trying to find out the truth, there's 1,000 others just adding noise and pushing political agendas.
