Just, like, never ever forget that we as individuals aren’t responsible for the climate crisis. Wash the yoghurt pots, of course, but also advocate for large corporations to stop trashing the planet and to be held responsible for the trashing they have already done.

I am going to dress up as one of Artemis’s nymphs for Halloween, and I am making my chitoniskos out of Lycra so I can do my run in it and frankly I’m so excited but I need a bow and arrows. I’ve been thinking about this ALL DAY.

Aside from everyone else's great points on how sad and dystopian this is, it's also not a difficult task if you regularly and routinely tell your child what makes them amazing.

My teenager is weird (compliment), creative, resilient, they're secure in themselves and their own being, they're reflexive and patient and brilliant. My six year old is exuberant and open, she's artistic and chaotic (compliment), she's kind and full of love and joy. Literally 45 seconds.

"This could have been an email." Aragorn whispers. "He ALWAYS pulls this shit in 'Any Other Business" Boromir replies, quietly. "It's why Faramir marked himself as busy when the invite went out."

Elrond tells the long story of the One Ring, from its forging in the Mountain of Fire, to its betrayal of Isildur at the Gladden Fields. Frodo is startled to learn that Elrond himself marched with Gil-Galad in the Last Alliance against Sauron, more than three thousand years ago.

Barely two months ago, we lost Professor Jason Arday. Thousands grieved. Institutions across higher education spoke about inclusion and belonging. Now Nathan Cofnas is being given a room at Oriel College, Oxford, to ask whether DEI is undermining higher education. 🧵

Ha ha ha, you can tell how tired I was typing this - 'engaging discussion with engaged students' 🤦‍♀️ Anyway, it was great.

What an amazing evening talking to the @leedsclassics.bsky.social Classics Society about sensory approaches to Ancient Greek religion. I don’t mean to brag but our students are incredible. Such an engaging discussion with a group of really engaged and thoughtful students! I love my job.

Today's decision by Labour to approve new drilling in the North Sea is climate vandalism. It's a betrayal of all of our futures, and Labour has abandoned all credibility in the fight against climate change. This is a victory for Shell over the people. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cw...

Backyard is the obvious way for ultra running to become an Olympic sport, but you couldn’t do teams of 15. Mixed teams of 5? 5 men, 5 women? It should start immediately after the opening ceremony (because tbh I like the complex situation of starting late).

Context: 1 yard = 6.706km/4.167miles, each yard is run every hour on the hour. World champ teams are 15 runners and every lap is 1 team point. Countries are running on their own course, simultaneously (so every country is on yard 70). Australia on 986 yards (in first place).

The condition of fabrics from #prehistoric pile dwelling and wetland settlements is amazing. This charred ball of thread was found at the site of Marin-Epagnier/Préfargier. It was made of hemp or lime fibres, and dates about 3900 to 3300 BC. The thread measures a total of about 10 m in length.🧵1/2

*actually in English it’s octopuses. I am firmly in the English plurals in English camp, but if you’re going to say octopi at least be pedantically correct about the fact it’s from Greek not Latin.

I say this as a white trail and ultra runner but I am begging white trail and ultra runners to recognise that trail and ultra running has an incredibly high bar to entry. It is not a readily accessible sport. There are loads of people doing good work to make it more accessible, but…
