Hey BlueSky, I'm Dustin, an educator, urban beekeeper, and tree farmer. I believe cities ARE nature and that integrating built and natural environments benefits both. Passionate about gardening, ecological design, and biomimicry. Social-sufficiency > Self-sufficiency Let’s connect.

No to the nine Vote to stay Mobilize Oust the UCP Fund public services that support people, not foreign funded corporations Cultivate a province that cultivates opportunities for its citizens.

Not so gentle reminder that boulevards are public/green infrastructure that support trees and climate change adaptation. It is illegal to park or drive over boulevards because doing so compacts soil and damages tree roots. Damages elm and ash trees are more susceptible to diseases. #yeg

Alberta separatism has many faces, to be sure. But our research identifies it as a far-right populist movement at its core. Like other FRP groups, they are driven by making society smaller and more exclusive. Rhetoric to that end receives spontaneous applause at their rallies.+

How about a law that all Data Centers must operate entirely off grid using renewable energy. And another requiring their cooling mechanisms use only closed loop cooling systems. How about if taxpayers don't end up paying the bills.

On July 16, there is the Premier’s breakfast at the legislature. I encourage everyone to go and ask her all your questions. Because she rarely makes appearances in public in #yeg #ableg

I may be wrong, but I suspect that there are more walnut trees in this row of propagation boxes than in the rest of Edmonton — three species, all grown from local seed sources. #yeg #yegfood #juglans

I harvested these tomatoes 5 months ago and they’re still going strong.

When I learned about Storage Tomatoes, I knew I needed to grow some. Storage 🍅s are bred to have long shelf-lives and can, apparently, sometimes last from harvest to Easter. The skin as thicker and the flesh a little more acidic, but a pretty damn good fresh tomato for the start of December.

It's less about parking than the wasted physical and emotional labour - it's actually worse because this isn't the first time, and these things chip away at our confidence that the City cares about our community.

I know it’s just parking, but I feel like we work really hard to care for this block/community, and it’s really disheartening when the City doesn't meet us with a similar level of care.

From the DM's... UCP MLA says via email that the decision to use the notwithstanding clause was not just about getting students into classrooms... The UCP were worried that arbitration would cost them "hundreds of millions, potentially billions". #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli #abed

Energy transitions can happen faster than we think: In 2000 almost 90% of Denmark's electricity was from fossil fuels. In 2024 less than 10% of Danish electricity was from fossil fuels.

The NDP found their numbers! Bill 201 would - increase minimum wage to $18 over 3 years and then index it to inflation. - Eliminate the lower "youth" minimum wage (youth don't pay lower prices, after all) - Ensure tips stay with service staff. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

NDP leader Naheed Nenshi pulled few punches today… Not only did he condemn Smith’s claim Peter Lougheed would support her attack on human rights… He called her and the entire UCP caucus cowards. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

A lot of questions today about how Danielle Smith -- the "libertarian" and "conservative" -- could use closure & the notwithstanding clause to remove Albertans' Charter rights. The answer: she's neither libertarian nor conservative. Is the province or her party, though? We'll soon find out.+

I'm the next few days, it would be a mistake to: ❌️ limit the resistance to the teachers' demands or saving public education ❌️ make labour/workers/unions the only faces of opposition The UCP's pre-emptive use of the notwithstanding clause is much broader than one strike or one set of rights.

Jared Wesley@jaredwesley.ca

The days ahead will be crucial. Not just in terms of public opinion, but in terms of political culture. Champions of human rights and the constitution must not only outnumber the premier's supporters. They must persuade Albertans that these positions are dominant, piercing the populist bubble.

Meanwhile, in Manitoba… At least one premier has a grasp of just how serious using the notwithstanding clause is… And is taking steps to ensure that at least one province doesn’t use it before hearing from the courts. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli
