Tuesday in October’s Product Edition: Temporal Proxy.
Every new app needs to protect sensitive data. It shouldn’t need a new encryption library. Temporal Proxy centralizes payload encryption with your keys, before data reaches Temporal Cloud.

Any politician who’s willing to throw away one group’s rights is willing to throw away everyone’s rights. It’s that simple.
Every single consultant, pundit and candidate who’s shown a willingness to abandon trans rights needs to be shunned from the party forever
Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights:
“I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”
Do I know anyone in south west London who can do a very small spot of spot welding? One of the legs fell off our lovely round metal teapot and solder won’t stick to the surface
“How much time do you think this defense secretary spends looking in the mirror in the morning? These are not serious people” — Obama’s audience in Ohio is hanging on every word as he skewers Trump and Hegseth
The fact that the president's doctors are giving him the dementia test over and over again -- tracking his decline, most likely -- and that the president keeps bragging about having to take that test should be a five-alarm fire.
Trump: "You know, the first question -- they have a lion, a snake, a giraffe, and a bear. And they say 'which is the snake?' ... by the time you get to number five a lot of people are left out on the road ... I get no credit for it."
Speaker submissions are officially open for Replay 2027!
Replay, our annual conference, is coming back to San Francisco May 17-19, 2027. We'd love to invite you to share hard-earned wisdom from putting the next generation of software into production.

There sure is a lot of upsetting news on the timeline this morning, so I'm posting this pic of my friend's dog, Sky, when she was a puppy, playing in the creek one morning.

President @barackobama.bsky.social showed me something in myself I might never have seen without him. I’m humbled to have his support in this fight. The Affordable Care Act will have laid the groundwork for guaranteed healthcare and I'm honored to pick up his baton and finally pass Medicare for All.
Temporal’s Rust SDK is now GA. Write Workflows and Activities in Rust and run Workers on Tokio. Temporal records Workflow progress so execution can continue after a Worker stops.

Before calling someone a “dirtbag,” the Senator should have had his facts straight. An apology is in order.
Glad one of us knew the difference between the Atlanta Hawks and the Iowa Hawkeyes!
Going to MongoDB.local NYC tomorrow? Catch our CTO, Maxim Fateev, after the opening keynote on a panel discussion with OpenRouter and Cognition on what it takes to run AI agents reliably in production.
In a private discussion today this came up:
“We need the January 6th Commission hearings, for DOGE.”
One could do a lot with NIH and NSF alone. There are clinical trials that ended, patients that died, young people leaving the US… and bad stuff that happened inside the agencies.
“Elon Musk and his DOGE operatives ran roughshod over our government...& created real-world disasters that impacted 100s of thousands of lives. We need lawmakers who will commit to issuing subpoenas & launching immediate investigations into Musk’s actions...” www.aol.com/articles/adv...
It never really led to significant contributions, but it was the core driver behind the architecture when we built the new system. It's definitely a major change to abandon that approach.

Took a bit of inspiration from npmx and added a chart to developer-signals.dev showing total upvotes over time
This one's for the Temporal API. I love how you can see little surges in developer interest, first in December and again this month.

It is Terry Fox Day, the run/walk in his name to raise money for cancer research. I learn it is now in 30 countries. That gallant 18 year old who did his own run in 1980, before his cancer stopped him, started something global. He tops most polls I’ve ever seen here for most-admired Canadian.

CBO analysis: The Iran war has cost the U.S. $38 billion as of August 1.
That’s >$246 million per day, on average.
CBO says the war has raised inflation and global energy prices, citing reduced traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, and says it’ll raise interest rates on treasuries.
30 incarcerated men presented a $4,267 donation to a northwest Kansas school district to pay down the district's unsettled lunch debt
The donation was to be "utilized to help local children fuel their day and stay focused and energized this school year"
Interesting side of Hitler I was unaware of
"Arguably Adolf Hitler’s greatest passion and pastime outside of his quest for world domination was his obsession with architecture and urban design."
Here he is with a model of the 330-foot high triumphal arch he wanted.

This is why I’m pessimistic about lib/left foreign policy in the near term tbh. The first thing on every foreign leader’s mind in 2029 is going to be “how do I know the USA won’t kick me in the balls and run off with my wallet in 4 years?” and we don’t have a good answer.
Trump has destroyed US credibility to the point that no one can make a deal with America even if they think the terms sound good, because they can’t trust the US to honor it.
The U.S.-Canada trade arrangement Trump now claims is unacceptable was the one he negotiated and signed in his first term.
