I did it! 150 doors knocked and voter-guide door hangers distributed. My neighbor-to-neighbor canvassing shift is done for this year.

1cc #929: Operation Wolf. This is a hard game that got *much* harder in recent versions of MAME. Playing the version with level-select and rushing to the end of the game makes it doable in a single credit.

No Kings Mira Mesa in San Diego! I was on trash panda duty this time, picking up litter to make sure we left the neighborhood cleaner than we found it. #NoKings

1cc #928: Thunder Zone! It's Data East week apparently. This is a big dumb fun game with big fat guitar riffs in the soundtrack. Boss battles are claustrophobic and the final boss battle is unfair, but thankfully you can stockpile bombs and just unload them all to finish it off easily. "ADIOS, PAL!"

Treats for the local Dem club meeting: ginger cookies with cardamom sugar, and good ol' Rice Krispie treats.

1cc #927: Act-Fancer: Cybernetick Hyper Weapon. An impressively weird Data East game where you quickly evolve into different forms - or even more quickly devolve, if you take damage. Cool ideas, somewhat jank execution, brash soundtrack - that's vintage Data East!

This is not the roundest pizza I've had this year but it is the most delicious one. (Wowee Zowee pizza in Tustin on the way back from Activate)

1cc #926: Sand Scorpion. This game is known for being easy (by arcade shmup standards!) It still took me many attempts, given how rough it is to recover from a death. Sticking with the blue weapon and powering it up PARTWAY but not all the way is key.

The game goes through serious slowdown in parts, which allows for some "bullet time" dodges - the last stage would be frankly terrifying without that slowdown. Made it to the last boss on one life and then had a messy end, just steamrolling him with bombs. Ah well, a clear is a clear!

1cc #925: Spinal Breakers. Captain Waffle to the rescue! (Yes, his name is Captain Waffle, and he recovers health by eating waffles) A weird, unsettling, somewhat gross, and stressful game with a wild backstory. I lucked out and (barely) managed a 1cc on my first run to reach the final stage.

Spinal Breakers was in La Calice Cup - but the Japan version. I played the world version, which seems a little easier (bosses have less health). The US version defaults to absurdly high difficulty.

1cc #924: Elevator Action. Cleared 1 loop (4 buildings). Difficulty starts modest but ramps up quickly as the baddies react faster and learn to crouch or go prone before firing. That reminds me of Gun.Smoke where the regular baddies remain an important, unpredictable threat all through the game.

1cc #923: V-V, aka Grind Stormer. Cleared this too late for La Calice Cup, but I got the clear! This game...has some pacing...issues...here...and there. But it looks great, and the soundtrack is fire. Not going to tangle with the second loop and its oodles of revenge bullets.
