IMO, a good screenshot of a video game isn't just one that shows off the best assets in the best lighting. It's one that makes the viewer ask "I wonder what's around that corner?"

Yeah, I'm happy with this. I'm bad at most parts of art (please don't make me model and animate things in Blender) but I think I'm pretty okay at lighting and atmosphere and stuff.

Even back in ye olde NES/Nintendo Power era, I was more intrigued by what was just off the screen in any screenshot. The tantalizing promise of what a game *could* be, more than what it *was*.

I always loved the star-shaped bloom/streak patterns in BioShock and thought it was weird that we never saw that in more games. I went down a research rabbit hole tonight and oh of course it was originally a Masaki Kawase technique. Dude basically invented bloom in games. Anyway, now I can do this.

I remember looking up how BioShock did this back when I was working on Bio2, and I later incorrectly said on Twitter that it was all in the CPU. It was not. The CPU side would've just been setting the angle for each blur pass; the actual one-directional blurs would've almost definitely been shaders.

Yeah, I'm happy with this. I'm bad at most parts of art (please don't make me model and animate things in Blender) but I think I'm pretty okay at lighting and atmosphere and stuff.

NATHAN FIELDER: So now that you’ve seen it, can you tell me what was funny about that bit? ELIZABETH HOLMES: *smiling like the Smile Demon from the Smile horror movie series* The guy took a really long time to describe what his family’s act was

Gave away my first three guitars and my first bass today. Slightly in my feels about it, but realistically I was never going to play them again and I still have way too many guitars.

I built the card game enemy AI for this, and the whole card game systems sandbox (which was exposed to designers and artists through a C++/Lua interface). That was one of the biggest pieces of a game I've ever owned, and I'm very proud of what we accomplished. Very glad to see it finally launch!

The Killing Stone, starring @emmagregoryvoice.bsky.social & @voiceofobrien.bsky.social is out NOW! Can you beat the Devil at his own game? πŸ•―οΈπŸ©ΈπŸͺ¨ 😈 youtu.be/tO1FtKzrSG4?... "David's AI is a jerk!" was a running joke during development. It was only built to optimize the outcome for its current move, without guessing what the player might do next or what it might draw next, but it still surprised us with some devilishly clever plays.

The Killing Stone's 1.0 launch is today, and players can finally experience The Reckoning. That was one of the most memorable parts of development for me, wrangling almost every system in the game to bring the ending experience together in its own unique way.

This is tragic and horrifying, and also far too similar to Owen Hart's death. They should've immediately canceled the game. Have we learned nothing?

The pacing of this show has been pretty perfect. I could use a good cluster match with an almost certain outcome after that last match. #AEWWrestleDream

I have no fear of people using AI to clone my games. I released the source code for Eldritch 12 years ago and AFAIK no one has tried to clone it. I'd *love* to see someone do a better version of Slayer Shock.

I loved Twitter; I was arguably addicted to it. I will never ever go back as long as Musk is running it. And my mental health has improved a fair amount since I'm not on there anymore and only check in here occasionally.

I see we're having a debate about whether it's okay to go back to "X," the site owned by a trillionaire fascist who is currently bankrolling the GOP's midterm, throttled Ukraine's war effort, and still winkingly allows vast amounts of CSAM on his service Answer: No, what the fuck is wrong with you
