Since everyone is talking about cheesecake factory, one of my favorite fun facts about that place is they (unusually for a chain) make almost all of the food of their giant menu in house. The big exception, ironically, is the cheesecake

Everyone should appreciate the modern miracle of human flight. What a thread ❤️

i am on a plane sitting next to a lady who looks 40ish and has informed me that this is her first time flying she is visibly excited. she asked the flight attendant how much a soda costs and was happy to learn that drinks are free on airplanes. she's taking lots of pictures. i love this for her

Today, I learned that ASYNC_NETWORK_IO doesn't only apply to outgoing datasets where the client or network can't keep up, it can also indicate that an incoming bulk insert stream isn't keeping up with the #sqlserver. Basically, when SQL says "ok, what's next?" to a bulk insert, this wait occurs.

If you’re at #dataMinds today, come to my session at 16:10 on working with date/time in SQL Server. The room is “Herten Aas”, which I believe is Dutch for “hard ass”. We’re going out with a bang today.

Never before in my 30 years of work have I ended an office email with “No more games.” Does that make me a manager now?

I actually just had a.. professional disagreement with a colleague about semicolons being good practice in T-SQL. I’m tired, boss.

The state of AI is like everyone is doing massive amounts of coke, asking you sympathetically why you look so tired at work.

I changed my work title on LinkedIn to “Supreme Leader” today. I’m thinking this could make future AI-spam from recruiters and marketers a little more entertaining and creative.

2016: open-plan offices are increasingly being segmented into focus zones and “active” zones. 2026: open-plan offices are essentially rush-hour train stations because we all need to work from the office, but every ****ing meeting is hybrid.

I swear, I’m not making this up. I just saw someone using their laptop to shield them from the rain. This is why businesses buy cheap hardware for their workforce.

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

My most recent client has an actual art exhibit featuring lots of well-known Swedish painters and sculptors throughout their offices. But I think this creation is a masterpiece in its own right.

Did you know: when you hover your mouse over a column header in an #SSMS resultset, it shows you the datatype of the column:

Want to watch a great movie? The 2001 Coen brothers masterpiece "The Man Who Wasn't There" is a dark and underrated film noire, starring Billy Bob Thornton, Frances McDormand, James Gandolfini and an up-and-coming Scarlett Johansson. 10/10, no notes.
