I completely understand the urge to not vote democrat right now because it's the "lesser of two evils", and under normal circumstances I would be right there too. but I just can't justify it given the forces that are in play. these aren't normal circumstances.

because you can't fix the system by refusing to engage with the system as it is, even if (especially if) that system is broken. you can't just not play because the system isn't perfect...because it's never going to *be* perfect. but there has to be a system in place for us to fix it at *all*.

yes, this rant has been me trying to walk myself through my own thoughts about it, and it's been as much about convincing myself as anyone else (because I doubt anyone but me will read this)...because I think I HAVE to vote for the democrats right now, as much as it sickens me

we're being held hostage by the two-party system, like we always have. but you don't try to escape by ignoring the problem just because the cops are shitty too. sometimes you have to stop yourself from going over the cliff and get back on the road to get anywhere.

it sucks, and I wholly admit it sucks, and again, I 100% get the impetus behind the people who refuse to vote for the democrats right now, even if I can't agree with it and think you're actively handing power to the people who will use it to hurt the most people.

of course I hate it, but I'd rather be debating the direction of the country with the democrats in power rather than the fascists who actually want me dead, even if those democrats are actively pushing the right's talking points right now...because not voting for them isn't going to fix that

anyone who thinks the democratic party is going to course correct as they get weaker is deluding themselves. they're going to chase after the winning strategy: in this case, emulating the strategy of the winners. it happened in 2020. things are worse and the party has only chased the right harder

refusing to vote for the democrats right now is like if you spun out on a shitty, rainy road on a cliff and refusing to pull out of the spin because it would "only" stop you from careening off of the cliff instead of immediately putting you right at your final destination.

one of the biggest wins for the right was to convince the country that the left complains too much. it has preheated the culture and shaped out discourse to this day, and it's still often just accepted as fact that the left "whines" and the right doesn't.

ugh, preheated was supposed to be permeated. take that, to all the six whole people who probably saw this

you can see this in how companies, especially media companies, bend over backwards to accommodate right-leaning man-babies complaining about too much inclusion but dismiss any complaints about bad (or a lack of) representation from the left as just inevitable
