This is a fun one. We'll be talking more about Daily Wire media down the line I think.

NEW IDSG Public Bonus Episode: Run Hide Fight Infidels! @danielharper.bsky.social & I look at the Daily Wire's recent movie, in which the writers puzzle over who they hate and want to kill more: Muslims, woke college kids, or the concept of cinema. idontspeakgerman.libsyn.com/public-bonus...

If there's one book I'd recommend to someone looking to understand the history of white nationalism in the USA in the 20th century, it's this one.

In June Bovino appeared on "Identity Politics" with Kevin DeAnna, who has decades under his belt as an open white nationalist under a series of pseudonyms. From the context of the conversation there is no way that Bovino could not have known how extreme DeAnna was. This is now ordinary politics.

Jeff Tischauser@jtischauser.bsky.social

Greg Bovino is allegedly appearing on a podcast tonight hosted by Terry Newsome—a Chicago-area Proud Boys, J6er and serial stalker. Bovino is a big get for Newsome whose podcast usually gets only a few 100 views but tracks with Bovino’s rapid decline into internet grifting.

This is not super uncommon. Projects this small you don't read the script before taking the job. It's all "we need Danny for these days" and the agent saying "he's available if you've got the money." I bet Danny's agent asks more questions going forward.

Ant@agramuglia.bsky.social

So Danny Trejo was manipulated and tricked into being in Ben Shapiro's newest film. Holy shit.

The median Republican staffer is what we would have called alt-right in 2016. Spencer, Peinovich, Cantwell, et al are pathetic losers today, but they pointed our body politic to a palatable 21st century fascism.

IMHO the influencers and thinkers are already to the right of Trump and the candidates winning primaries are more likely than not also to his right. We're there now.

Worth noting here that Andrew Kolvet, spokesman for TPUSA, also endorses state-murder-as-spectacle, after defenders of Charlie Kirk insisted *his* call for such executions as mandatory viewing for kids was just banter (there's video; it wasn't) & that saying otherwise was defaming his memory.

Gil Durán@gilduran.com

Remember when Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale called for public executions? www.thenerdreich.com/joe-lonsdale...

I think I liked it more than Jack but it's far from a perfect film. If you see it (and flaws and all I think you should) please avoid spoilers at all costs.

So... I watched Digger. Umm... yeah... hmmm... Interesting. Not 'good', exactly. Or 'successful'. Or anything like that. But certainly... interesting. Looks like it'll be the subject of a public bonus IDSG, because @danielharper.bsky.social found it... interesting too.

Weiss's target demo throughout her entire career has been wealthy metro-area elites who are very racist and hate their more liberal neighbors, and if you have half a brain and aren't one of those guys yourselves, it would be extremely obvious that's a self-limiting population.

This is also the answer to "why are so many Jewish people in showbiz or banking"

Haus of Decline@hausofdecline.bsky.social

Why are there so many Trans people who are musicians? Because the arts are one of the few options available to us to achieve any sort of class mobility, the others being sex work and Raytheon.

social media is not "just wanting to communicate with your friends". And Taylor knows it. This is a deliberate denial of basic reality, and a large body of science on how algorithmic social media can harm kids in particular.

Guardian US@us.theguardian.com

Can social media be addictive? @taylorlorenz.bsky.social says no. “You wanting to communicate and chat with your friends every day is not an addiction,” says Lorenz. “And to frame it that way is incredibly harmful and anti-science.”

There’s a story about how Allied soldiers made the adults of the towns next to concentration camps walk through the camps during the waning months of WWII. Stacy here needs to be first in line when all of this is said and done.

The problem is that "while you weren't looking the tech industry was comprehensively taken over by a cult based around a piece of Harry Potter fanfic" is self-evidently an absolutely ridiculous claim that can't possibly have happened, which is a real problem given that it 100% did happen.

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

The U.S. AI industry is being run by a batshit rationalist sex cult, and no, I am not being hyperbolic - they’re genuinely Like That:

It is a mark of the creeping fascism we live under that the "moderates" definitionally are going to move further right. To blithely accept this is to fundamentally give in to the worst of the worst.

The international chess Federation banned trans women from playing women's chess. CHESS. It's not about fairness. The fairness argument is intended to radicalize people into more violent forms of transphobia.

it seems to me the dynamic at the center of it all is people have broadly learned? decided? that things they see in real life are fake or for content, and everything they see online is real and true.

It’s a murderous hate rally, which mainstream media not only has no problem with, they won’t even report on it.

Someone does not remember 1) gay people are still discriminated against in many ways in this country, even where it's "illegal" 2) the very militant wing of the gay rights movement for decades, that was quietly papered over by wealthy gays who just wanted to get the tax benefits of marriage.

This is a powerful story from a trans Texan (who's also quite a talented independent journalist). I've been arguing that trans people have the right to be upset with Talarico, and I think we do. This is the case for vote for him anyway, eloquently made, and by someone with the standing to make it.

Aleksandra Vaca@transiticsnews.com

I’m a Texan trans kid who almost died because of Ken Paxton. The world should know what he’s done. This was very difficult for me to write, but given what's at stake, I cannot bear to stay silent about what I went through at Paxton's hands. He must not be rewarded for what he's done to trans kids.
