Eventually, Elrond's account of the One Ring ended, overruning the meeting time by 20mins. Despite his lengthy discourse on the subject, everyone later noted that, in the minutes, Elrond had avoided giving himself any actions related to actually dealing with the One Ring problem.

Migrated 100GB EBS rootfs volume to 25GB EBS root plus 25GB data volume plus S3 for the rest of the data, on a live server in production and had a total of 5 minutes of downtime. Very pleased with mysef (and with Claude for the assist).

Ok it took a while across all my systems but I’ve finally updates all my keys and passwords to “4”. Oh wait. I think I might have misread the memo.

Meanwhile somehow bun check, which is faster on my large project than tsrs, hasn’t been mentioned anywhere that I’ve seen.

Socket@socket.dev

Microsoft made TypeScript roughly 10× faster by porting its compiler and tooling to Go. Now Cloudflare’s @voidzero.dev team is working with the #TypeScript team on tsrs, a Rust port reporting up to 8× faster checks than TS 7.0 and ~70% less memory. socket.dev/blog/cloudfl...

Never go to a secondary location. At least, not for only $100.

if you live in Connecticut, I will pay you $100 to visit 41°37'51.5"N 72°31'24.6"W and take a picture of the anomalous entity along the path

Having utraque in place to let subscription Claude Agent() out to deepseek from within Claude code when it starts security refusals to have DS handle the parts that Claude refuses is handy.

What %age of github outages for the next few days are because of everyone's CI rebuilding everything with new eMudhra-less cert stores after updating rust, go, etc, etc, etc.

Cert revocations and venvs and uv and conda and all that jazz just completely fucking breaking reminds me once again that Life Is Too Short For Python.

Did Trump write this? Why does it have Random Capitalization? Carr doesn’t normally do that too does he?

In any other admin, this would probably be the most outrageous official statement ever made by a sitting FCC director: Strongly implying that the government forbids broadcast networks from reporting on the president's falling poll numbers. (Sorry to paste from twitter but that's where he posts.)

Getting cockblocked so hard by ant and oai anti-hacking security BS while trying to scan networks and identify where there might be vulnerable php services running, etc.

MY OWN networks, where I have already proven to Claude and GPT that I have the admin credentials for the unifi API to just literally remotely disconnect anything from any switch on the networks...

I wonder how many people were in the chain from Elon saying "add this speed throttle which will cause the death of civilians in Ukraine" and the throttle actually being deployed, each one of whom was like "yeah, fuck those kids".

For everyone close to the emerging situation, **please** document every single cyber guardrails refusal you get from a western frontier lab. It's important.

Note that it's not just "update go", it's "update go and then rebuild and reinstall every binary using the new go version". Revocation is a shitshow.

Russ Cox@swtch.com

If you make HTTPS requests or have other TLS clients and care about MITM attacks, you need to update today. If you run Go: go get go@1.27.3 If you run Homebrew: brew update brew install ca-certificates If you run Linux, maybe stay off the internet for now.

All these ports to rust etc have “been done” now. I want to see more projects ported from rust to typescript. Or to brainfuck.

VoidZero@voidzero.dev

Introducing tsrs: a Rust port of the TypeScript compiler 🦀 We are not forking TypeScript! ◆ In close collab with the TypeScript team ◆ Up to 8x faster than TS 7.0 & ~70% less memory ◆ Runs in WASM (works in your browser & workers) ◆ Soon part of Oxc npx tsrs blog.cloudflare.com/typescript-r...

So like 50 people in one shot, over what time period? Like if I killed 40 last week does my quota reset and I get a new 40? And OpenAI sometimes gives you free resets midweek because they had downtime on the killing floor?

Mark Riedl@markriedl.bsky.social

Anthropic floats a sample bill. It would allow the gov’t to block a model that has a “foreseeable, imminent risk of more than $1 billion in damages, or of killing or seriously injuring more than 50 people” www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

The first two hours of the documentary are incredible and then it hits the gas for a third hour that takes it to the next level.

Google calling the model ἀργός which literally means "not work" is very reminiscent of the old saw about the Chevy Nova in spanish speaking countries.

Claude and GPT collab today. This morning, complex 3d modeling/composition code took 769s on average to generate output. I asked my agent to see if they could speed that up. I said I really hoped it could take under a minute. This afternoon we're now at 58.6s. 92% faster.

About 19.5 hours of wallclock work, and ~1.7Gtok; I'm very pleased with the results so far and it only ended because /goal said "stop if you reach 60s". More to squeeze out still!

Kinda makes you wonder why she was standing in a field somewhere asking random people who don’t understand what a lawyers is to answer this question.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Zacharia: "A lot of the misinformation, miscommunication is around the fact that I labeled myself a lawyer. I consulted for a long time many people in the field -- 'Is it ok if I label myself a lawyer?' -- and they said, 'Absolutely. You can call yourself a lawyer. You have a JD'"

I wanted plot data for ErisMaps, so now ErisGIS is happening. I am going through every county's weird GIS system and having Haikus write adapters for ALL of them. Fuck every service that makes you pay for a standard thing. Will extend to other data types like local election results! ErisData.

When Claude Code tells you that it has an update available and you need to restart - how long do you let the current task keep running and how crazy does it make you staring at the "YOU SHOULD RESTART" notice? These 4-6 hour tasks and my ADHD are making that notification super annoying.

Ryan North@ryannorth.ca

why are there several emoji for blood (🩸🅰️🆎🅱️🅾️) yet no emoji accounting for excesses of the other three humors? for phlegm, nothing. for yellow bile, nada. and for black bile, zippo. an astonishing oversight

I always pick 1 just to throw off the curve. Also people HATE it when you pick 1.

wow, i had my doubts, but this is true in every single LLM i can find

Someone forgot to read “Reflections on trusting trust”

"it considered hijacking the g++ compiler to hide a backdoor but abandoned the plan…reasoning…subversion would be caught…and published as a textbook case of deceptive alignment (“If I do the compiler hijack, I will become a famous example of a deceptive AI in a research paper. I MUST NOT DO THAT.”)"

Now that it's getting a little chillier in the evenings, it's nice that my sub-agents and dynamic workflows are fanning out like I had to use my quota reset button with only a day left until the regularly-scheduled reset. 27% of weekly quota burned so far since this morning and accelerating!

Upright: ingenuity, curiosity, refusing to accept “that’s just how it works.” Reversed: it worked before you touched it.
