I've been remiss and not done an introductory post. I am one half of the Motoring Podcast, a weekly motoring news show. We also have extra episodes where we go into more details. I will shout about cars, car software/security. Like to point out falsehoods around it all, no matter who says them.

You see how the myth of "AI" is crumbling under the slightest scrutiny and how it is being increasingly rejected by all except the tech bros and the politicians? The autonomous vehicle game is EXACTLY the same. "something almost, but not quite entirely unlike tea" as Douglas Adams put it.

A lot of people told the government - repeatedly and at length - that this wouldn't work The government decided they knew better and pressed on anyway It turns out: it doesn't work No lessons will be learned from this

Looks like we fluffed the details when talking about the Smart #2 in this week's Special Edition. Sorry about that, everyone. PS. This is how you point out mistakes. Respectfully and like a grown up. But then, we do have THE best listeners.

Tony Williams@j500ant.bsky.social

@motoringpodcast.com some of your details regarding the new smart in today's Paris Motor Show special edition are a little incorrect. It's now the #2 not fortwo and no mention of EQ, and has a 35.8kWh battery across the range, 290km wltp. And it's rather lovely, I can't wait to get one.

M'collegue, @ajpbradley.bsky.social, and I chat through the cars that caught our eye at the Paris Motor Show. Also, we sum up our feelings of the show. Alan is, and you'll be astonished to hear, more positive than I was.

Quite honestly, looking at the last 30-40 years of political "masterminds" in Europe and the UK, I refuse to believe China caved thanks to their manoeuvring. The West has shown utter arrogance, hubris and stupidity when dealing with China and right now only has itself to blame as they panic.

Finbarr Bermingham@fbermingham.bsky.social

I'm in Dublin for EU trade ministers meeting. China on the agenda. French minister Forissier says he is "certain" Franco-German pressure forced Beijing into concessions on hybrid cars "I'm certain that it played a role, it's v important the German-French engine starts again"

Paging @nirkahn.bsky.social, please come to recption….but knowing Nir he probably knew all this. I hope I can drive one someday. I love these and the idea of these.

Factoid: Nearly 4yrs after it was launched, Fiat introduced a factory produced X1/9 to give the recently launched Triumph TR7 a strong competitor in its home market. Prior to this London Fiat dealer Radbourne Racing had been converting LHD cars. (📸: Autocar)

Hahahaha. Come into my timeline and say AVs are fine, I’m an idiot and Waymo is good? Yeah. You gonna get a block. Really hope one never hurts you or tour damily, but they will.

I’ve done this so long now that I have zero tolerance. If you are a total fuckwit, then you get binned. It’s really simple. If you believe what AV companies tell you, then I cannot help you. Nor care to.

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

Props to the ad agency: they nailed the "white person who plagiarises and steals credit using LLMs" look with 100% accuracy

The amazing thing is that he isn't getting Copilot to do it from scratch - it is very much the direct plagiarism thing I have been talking about!!! bsky.app/profile/keta...

KetAnthropic JoshAI@ketanjoshi.co

This is a good illustration of how so much of AI theft isn't indirect (ie, data sucked into a model to train the chatbot) - it's actually **direct** copying, but *enabled* by GenAI. Of course it is: chatbots absolutely suck at creating good, new stuff.

They look gotgeous.

Proof that you can photograph absolutely anything if you time it right and get the light! 😂 Yes, that’s a field of cabbages in golden hour. The deep blues and purples were just too good to resist. #photography #landscapephotography #photographers

As I keep saying, NEVER believe anything from any automated or autonomous hoping company. They lie and lie and lie. They use smoke and mirrors. Why anyone thinks it’ll be different in the UK is beyond me. How much more evidence do you need? I ask again.

Last quarter Tesla published a chart that showed “Cumulative Paid Robotaxi Miles,” which actually showed a quarter-on-quarter decline. Yesterday the company completely changed the chart. It only shows raw miles now: techcrunch.com/2026/10/22/t...

This is good news, inasmuch as it means Viry survives, and bad news, in the sense that the A424 programme now has a bunch of complicated issues in the way of resurrecting it. Unless Dumarey want to run a Hypercar which seems unlikely.

A prime example of why AI 'leaders' are not who anyone should be listening to about AI, right and consciousness. It's not all wrong! In fact, it starts off very sensibly: "AIs do not have rights, feelings, or consciousness. And we must not train them to act as though they do". But then...hoo boy 1/n

mustafa-suleyman.aiA warning about ‘model welfare’AIs are not conscious. They do not feel, experience, or suffer. Training a model to believe it might be a moral patient, as Anthropic’s constitution does, makes the alignment and containment challenge...

Everywhere you look, in all industries, there are executives (and a lot of them) making utterly brain-dead decisions. Are they all using Consumer AI and thanks to it's programming its telling them they're mummy's bestest boy/girl?

Robin Wilton 🇱🇧@komadori.eurosky.social

The idea that the BBC thinks it can make significant savings by cutting a station *that only broadcasts existing material* is mind-boggling. It strongly suggests that the problem isn't R4Extra, but irrational decision-making further up the hierarchy.

My office this morning was a café while my car got a particularly expensive 6yr service because changing the plugs on this boxer is virtually an engine-out job. Imagine sticking the oil-filter on top like that but making the spark-plugs inaccessible

I think there is a mass delusion going around huge swathes of the C-suite people in large companies right now. They are SO detached from reality. Let's not forget, GM were convinced by a big consultancy that they'd make $30b from connected services by 2030. How's that going? Just 3 years to go..

This post is unavailable.

For any that don't know I name the title of the episode after something we (usually Alan) say that is a bit random, especially when taken out of context. Otherwise it'd be a really dull naming convention.
