If you ever feel like you don't know what you're doing, just keep in mind Spotify sent out an email today with an image that is 8736x11648 in dimensions and 19.6MB in filesize. So. You're fine.

I'm mildly new to the D&D dungeon master scene. I've tried the various apps, Notion templates, Obsidian...nothing stuck, and nothing fixed my desire of wishing I could reduce the amount of windows I swapped between during sessions. Naturally I've been working on my own solution over the last year.

Design-wise it loosely follows with TailwindCSS and Radix principles without using either system. Trying to not be too clever with design while also not reinventing the wheel too much. Copy-and-paste ain't dead.

Not really sure where this thread's going, but hey I even hired a designer to make a cool logo. If you're not buying logos or domains for side projects, are you even an engineer

Most of my day-to-day work has been in front-end for marketing, so trying to channel some sort of app-related development and design has been quite a challenge. Contrast still isn't great, and use of space leaves a bit to be desired so far.

I dunno, I just wanted to be able to run pnpm dev and set up an encounter and quickly see how my party would be challenged for that challenge 😅 Next thing I know I'm studying useSyncExternalStore().

To say I've spent an over-abundance of time looking at UI of other apps and Dribbble and stressing about how the UX flows and the colors and contrast gets solved with layered session blocks is an understatement. Designers who can do this stuff well truly are on another level.

I've spent the majority of my time working on state management and UI flow. Trying to reduce the amount of libraries and lean into what I know of React proper, I've just been using React's state management lightly modeled after Zustand/Redux concepts, it's not overkill and keeps good performance.

Has Bluesky recovered from its "we're not twitter so we're better so here we're going to be really toxic but it's ok because we're better" phase? Or no

Every year the whole team at Kit takes around a week and a half off for the holidays as one of the perks outside of normal PTO. I'm adding a few extra days and making it about 2 weeks. Ready for the recharge, thankful for the time.

Everyone who talked about how AI would give us freedom to be creative and push humanity forward with how we would have more time to make things...yeah it was a lie. This Is what we get instead.

This video is such a monumental step backwards. 😅

The pattern of downloading a free app, going through a small tutorial, then being faced with a subscription requirement is one of the worst things to come out of the last decade. I'd rather buy the app up front. Now I'm just gonna delete it.

I mean, the internet is measurably worse now, right? Everything is AI, everything is ads, everything is monetized, everything is shortcuts, everything is quick shitty low-effort content to try and become the next big thing... Am I crazy or has it just not always been quite like this? Am I old?

I'm slowly coming around to the idea of killing my streaming subscriptions again and rebuilding the physical library. Spotify doesn't give a shit about artists, and it's more and more clear with every price increase and every CEO bonus. It's more important than ever to directly support art.

Let's make AI jealous. Write what Al can't touch. Humans can think with their heads, hearts, and bodies. Try moving your hands. It's fine if your mind remains a jumble. Ideas scattered across the paper. Sometimes they connect by chance, and something new is born.

An absolute monster of a day consisting of several files of full of notes and a browser bookmark folder packed with links from #perfnow conference in Amsterdam...and it's only Day 1 😅

Your irregular reminder that push notifications are other peoples' agenda for you and they are killing your productivity and happiness. Disable notifications === happiness. PSA complete.

It makes me sad when people say an idea then admit it was from ChatGPT or whatever. No, YOU have good ideas. YOUR opinion and creativity is what I want. If I wanted some shitty computer generated idea I would have typed it myself. This horseshit is robbing the world of badly needed humanity.

I swear the internet is just wholly cheap hacks and product flipping at this point. Can't even try to find something handmade without having to weed through thousands of Temu-level mass produced shite with 100% false product descriptions.

8 years later I still get comments on a video I posted about switching from an Apple Watch to an analog watch. Mostly positive, some who lack tact and social skills, some who are just mean. Doesn't bother me, just interesting.
