"RAW? more effort tho" yes. if you want to get serious, stop shooting JPEGs/HEIFs. the sensor in your camera is captures a ton of data and if all you have are those then you've thrown away the data used to make them. if you're going to work in post, shoot in RAW.

lux.cameraThe Power of RAW on iPhone, Part 1: Shooting RAWI take a lot of photos. Usually I pack either a Sony A7R2 or a Leica M—two cameras with massive sensors and brilliant lenses. But lately, I’ve been shooting exclusively with the iPhone X, and hav...

people who use AI as a replacement for thinking, learning and communicating should be shamed and punished. the same way we shame and punish drunk drivers, or people who negligently discharge firearms. it is bad to misuse tools in a way that damages society

It is used extensively in Surface-to-Air role now. The first tests for such a setup was validated in 2021. The US and Ukraine use the system in that configuration now.

My version of Hail Mary spacecraft from Project Hail Mary novel by Andy Weir. Next week we're probably getting a trailer for the movie adaptation of PHM with Ryan Gosling, so this weekend I rushed to have my own take on the spacecraft, before my imagination gets spoiled by the movie version.

🆕 Planning for the Unthinkable: the targeting strategies of nuclear-armed states Intense secrecy around nuclear targeting means that most individuals—including lawmakers—do not have much understanding of how fateful decisions about what to target during wartime are made.

Absolutely laughable to call gaming "one of the most expensive hobbies around" because a video game costs ten dollars more. Gamers are children and should be treated with distain.

Never in my lifetime has the Democratic Party been as much as a ghost ship as it is today. Incredible there aren't more insurgent primary campaigns. Power is just sitting there and the only thing guarding it is fossils like Chuck Schumer

This probably has something to do with Chromebooks now being the standard educational laptop in US schools. If you get used to using a certain program (in this case Google Docs) you'll keep using it. Google was very smart to get Chromebooks in schools, basically.

Almost none of the college students I teach use Microsoft Word anymore. They almost all use Google Docs. This has been a fairly sudden shift in the last 5 years or so.

I have broken/fixed iOS autocorrect - I was typing “fucking” and it switched to “ducking” and then back! I have sworn so much that it has given up

I have no doubt the lecture fell on unlistening ears and an unwilling mind. Our vice president was there purely for a photo op with the Pope. He got it, and sadly for our vice president, that's all he will take away from meeting a better man than he. It's all he was capable of taking away from it.

I appreciate that one of his last acts was to have a cardinal lecture a sitting vice president about empathy.

an interesting thread in ian toll's pacific war trilogy is that the feared japanese zero was not the vastly superior fighter plane that i have been led to believe it was and american pilots adapted to its nimbleness a lot sooner than i thought, and well before better american planes arrived
