@climateaction.bsky.social

I'm interested in climate research, systemic change in our food system and the transition to a sustainable world. Focused on monetary policy and central banking in a previous life.

1/ There’s an instructive debate underway in the open review pages of @egu.eu journal Ocean Science. It’s about whether we can tell if the #AMOC is already on a trajectory towards collapse. What I think it really teaches is how scientists judge evidence, & why that differs from assessing risk. 🧵

doi.orgOpinion: The AMOC is weakening – time to take the evidence seriouslyAbstract. The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) is a critical component of the climate system. Climate models have long predicted a slowing of the AMOC due to anthropogenic forcing, w...

68% of voters want the US to take ambitious action on climate change!

Latest WSJ poll: "63% want to pause AI development 61% want a billionaire wealth tax 59% want Medicare for All 57% want a $20 minimum wage 58% want to end U.S. military aid to Israel" This is the center of the country politically. it is time all adjust to this political spectrum, esp. media.

The US Senate finds that the fossil fuel industry received $190 billion in tax breaks and subsidies from the Trump regime in exchange for campaign donations. The deregulation and subsidies have increased both energy costs for Americans and the damage from climate change and air and water pollution.

No one would be able to say this stuff if the fossil fuel industry didn't own both the people saying it *and* the media ecosystem reporting it. But here we are.

It cannot be stated enough: whatever your view of technology & policy development over the rest of this century & beyond, the rapid ending of fossil fuels is the most resilient & robust way to secure a liveable climate.

"As a result of the additional emission allowances, companies will invest less in emission reduction. According to this analysis, the proposed changes will therefore lead to a total increase in emissions of 33 percent within the EU ETS, amounting to an extra 2.9 gigatonnes of CO₂ by 2050."
