I would like Democrats to come out and say that anyone receiving assets from this new slush fund, or profiting any of the other corrupt acts from this candidate, will have 100% of their assets seized the first chance we get. Even if they get pardoned.

Yeah, I'm real tired of this narrative that disabled people "enjoyed" lockdown. Lockdown sucked. It just sucked less than dying of COVID, a thing the abled world doesn't care about anymore. I'm also tired of abled people mourning their time in lockdown more than they mourn the 1.2 million dead.

Anna Holmes@annabookwriter.bsky.social

Being 1000% clear, your immunocompromised friends (you have them, right? Well, you do now) weren’t happy with lockdown because we hate people and didn’t want to hang out. We miss lockdown because that’s when abled people acted like they cared if we died.

One of the things that is just maddeningly grotesque about the current situations in Cuba and Iran is that Trump imposes mass suffering as a means of ego gratification

Patrick Iber@patrickiber.bsky.social

Friends: somehow I got to write for Rolling Stone [?!], about Trump's inhumane pressure campaign in Cuba. "Castro’s ego was sustained by rebellion; the David who fought Goliath and won, no matter the cost to others. Trump’s ego demands that he be Goliath, and win, no matter the cost to others."

Segregationists did memory hole slavery for about 100 years and then integration meant that white students would learn about it honestly in school and they've been trying to memory hole it again ever since.

Sanho Tree@sanho.bsky.social

They want to memory-hole slavery like the way China erased the Tiananmen Square Massacre. “The Trump administration is ordering the removal of information on slavery at multiple national parks in an effort to scrub them of “corrosive ideology.”

Reminder that the moon that orbits the Earth has a name in English and that name is the Moon. There are lots of nicknames and names in other languages (Luna, for instance) but technically in English it is just the Moon. The concept of a moon is uncapitalized; our moon is the Moon.

Here is a very nice picture of a moon that is not the Moon

The whole-Earth-at-night photo from the #Artemis II mission was brighter than many expected. That was mostly due to camera settings; here’s another pic taken just before with diff settings. Chuck Schumer likes to imagine how his politics play with an imaginary middle-class middle-aged couple on Long Island, but I don't think he realizes that couple is currently constructing a guillotine in their suburban backyard and stockpiling Molotov cocktails.

There's a long, bad journalistic tradition: All conservative grass-roots political movements are fascinating heartland phenomena, all progressive grass-roots political movements are ineffectual bleating. This one is written off as powered by white female college grads--the wine-moms slur, basically.

Y'all know that Indiana tried to do this to Illinois last year and Iowa, this year, right? Red states are trying to steal counties from blue states, and they're counties that have been gerrymandered or suppressed enough to read "red." Stealing and lying is the only way the GOP gets elected.

I don't think people fully appreciate how apocalyptic things are for US science. I haven't had any new funding since 2024, but I'm still ok since typical grants are for three years. This means next year I will be completely out of funding and will have to fire everyone in the lab. It's not great.

I agree 100% with Steven Vickers that authors will be falsely accused of using AI in the coming years. In particular, authors like myself whose works were stolen to train AI systems are at risk. When we write in our own unique styles, AI trained on us will quite likely flag us as using AI.
