No matter how well-known Arkady Martine's "A Memory Called Empire" is, it deserves more.

This is your periodic reminder that word of mouth moves more books than any formal advertising! I invite you to rec something you've recently enjoyed -- preference for the stuff that's *not* already extremely well-known and talked about everywhere.

This looks very cool… I bet I can guess who wrote it too… @pablogsal.com , this you?

I cannot wait for Tachyon in Python 3.15. This looks incredible and seems a lot more like something I'd see as an external package and not a part of the stdlib. statistical profiling, record & replay, multiple display formats, async stack reconstruction, & more

Yep, she certainly was, and I hope Major still is!

The location is Chidamoyo Christian Hospital in Hurungwe, Zimbabwe. Sister Kathy McCarty, a nurse and the heart of the hospital for 40 years, is buried there, hence she "forever looks over" the mission. "Major" was a real person, a companion and colleague at the mission.

…and there’s me remembering what a good vintage 1.5.2 was… 👴

Here’s a thought. Later this year or next you will have students who were not yet alive when Python 3.0 was released.

I like “overmorrow” too :-)

Gretchen McCulloch@gretchenmcculloch.com

Just texted a friend "can you remind me when you're around tomorrow/overmorrow" and I just think if a few of us really gave it a try suuuper casually we could bring back this word for day after tomorrow next year

Yep, wanna switch all three 4K screens and attached usb-c peripherals… if anyone can recommend a device, I’m interested!

SwiftOnSecurity@swiftonsecurity.com

Part of the problem here is the extremely detailed limitations of multi-monitor over USB-C dock models, plus the expense and complexity of multi monitor high-resolution high-refresh DisplayPort KVM switches. You wanna press one button and switch all your monitors. Problem.

📊 sequence() - Flexible sequence comparisons Full control over ordering and partial matching: from testfixtures import sequence compare(results, expected=sequence(partial=True, ordered=False)( Record(id=3), Record(id=5), ]))

🔄 unordered() - Order-independent exact matching Database queries don't guarantee order? No problem: from testfixtures import unordered compare(query_results, expected=unordered([ User(id=1, name='Alice'), User(id=3, name='Charlie'), ]))

🎯 like() - Partial object comparisons: from testfixtures import compare, like compare(api.get_users(), expected = [like(User, email='alice@example.com', role='admin')]) Don't worry about attributes you don't care about!

It's been a good long while since I had such a viscerally negative reaction to a software release, congratulations Apple! "Liquid Glass" in iOS 26 is absolutely abhorrent: "Here's let us burn more of your battery to make it harder to read anything on your screen" 🤯
