Years of campaigning to get information from B&NES Planning on the impact on transport, retail and ecology in east Bath. So many people helped with their objections. Thanks to everyone! People still need help with the cost of living and cheaper food and we recognise that. #Lidl #GreenParty #BathUK

What is the biggest threat to people in the UK? Heatwaves killed thousands this year and Covid pandemic killed over two hundred thousand. These are just two things that need more investment to keep us safe in the UK.

Adrian Ramsay@adrianramsay.bsky.social

This death toll should be treated as the national scandal it is. An estimated 4,354 people have died in UK heatwaves since June. The Government has yet to explain how, or what it will do to be ready before next summer.

It is the Labour gov unreasonable dictatorial demands that are interfering in locally elected councils. Green and Labour councillors are running services for their residents and Labour are putting all that in jeopardy. It is for them to explain why. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Does the Labour government have any intention to bring back water into public ownership, like the majority of the public want? Listen to the ministers reply and read the comments. Spoiler…no Greens will #NationaliseWater and protect the environment #VoteGreen 💚

Prem Sikka@premnsikka.bsky.social

90% of England’s water industry is foreign-owned, including entities linked with the Chinese state. The result is low investment, high bills, sewage in rivers, over 1,200 criminal convictions, harms to nature, health and national security. Public ownership is needed. Watch the Minister's reply.

Our NHS has been hollowed out over the last few decades. Thank you @premnsikka.bsky.social The UK has 2.4 NHS beds PER 1,000 people Japan: 12.6 Germany: 7.7 Austria: 6.6 France: 5.4 OECD average: 4.2 This is why we have the disgrace of corridor care. It's time to invest and rebuild our NHS

The Covid wave in England is growing very fast, and the overall Covid risk level has been raised to High. As of 4 October, 1 in every 175 people were infected, up 34% on the previous week. We continue to recommend that Covid-Cautious people take full precautions in ALL indoor places. A thread 🧵

The NHS needs investment so it can deliver the health services that we deserve. The health of its citizens should be a priority for a government, not a nice to have. Prevention, public health measures and social care will all ease the burden on the acute hospitals. Tax wealth:invest in health.

So many reasons to throw Palantir out of the NHS and not allow it anywhere near our police force or defence, and now this! Red flags everywhere. Do not ignore the danger. Labour need to stay well clear, just like other European countries that have banned it.

The solutions to the climate emergency and inequity are available to us now. All it takes is political will to choose them. The Green Party have made those choices to make life better for people and planet with our well thought out policies for sustainable living within planetary boundaries.

We need to stop imagining more tech will save us. Less tech is urgently needed. Use less by making homes warm and shifting travel from private vehicles to mass transit. Build stations not data centres. Stop the fake solutions that fuel higher demand. End fossil fuel cars sooner not later.

How about taxing the people with private jets, the frequent flyers, the people whose carbon footprint is destroying the planet? That way you could reduce inequality, fund social care, invest in home grown renewables, and restore sanity to the climate to improve food security. Win, win, win, win.

Jet fuel: 12,000 Wh/kg. Modern batteries: ~300 Wh/kg. Even with motor efficiency, jet fuel holds 20x the power per kg. Worse: planes rely on getting lighter as they burn fuel. Electric planes spend energy hauling dead battery weight all the way to landing. It's a physics wall.

Good news that householders are benefitting from solar and contributing to renewable energy generation. Rooftop solar alone is not going to meet demand. We need a mix of wind & solar farms, battery storage and other renewables to really transition off volatile, ripoff fossil fuels.

UK is on track to install around 300,000 solar rooftops this year That'll break records and on its own add at least 1GW of solar to UK generation For scale, UK maximum demand is around 50GW www.businessgreen.com/news/4535700...
