Virginia. Nevada. Idaho. Missouri: These 4 states have abortion ballot measures. In another 7, voters will weigh in on LGBTQ+ rights, especially re trans kids in sports. In GA's governor's race, a rare blue wave could liberalize state abortion laws. We're watching them all. Follow along with us.

RNG is tracking reproductive justice in the 2026 midterms. We’re covering places that put abortion on the ballot, like Nevada, and races where voters won't weigh in on abortion—yet the outcome could affect their rights and access to care. Find all our midterms coverage on our website, no paywall.

I love editing young reporters. In this collab w/ @fullerproject.org, Maia Capuano asked her fellow UGA students about the GA governor's race. Turns out, they're not much focused on the remote possibility that a Dem wave could overturn the state's abortion ban. They have more kitchen table concerns.

Not a congressman yet--but a former NYC city council member and city comptroller & mayoral candidate. Brad Lander def has a public profile--but it hasn't prevented him from being arrested and roughed up. Last year, Lander was also arrested in NYC over his monitoring of immigration courts.

I’ve been released from IDF custody with a “warning,” apparently because of my public profile (I told them I wasn’t even a congressmember yet, just a nominee). But several dozen rabbis & participants harvesting olives with me are still in detention.

Breast cancer awareness month usually comes with pink ribbons and mammogram reminders. And that's all well and good. But the reality is that while a breast cancer diagnosis is life-changing, it's often just the start of a longer journey that's often invisible. rewirenewsgroup.com/2026/10/19/a...

rewirenewsgroup.comSurviving Breast Cancer is Hard. Providers Are Working to Improve Post-Treatment Care.Surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy can take a toll on physical and mental health. Survivors want their doctors to get it—and treat them accordingly.

For those of you who aren’t journalists on the gender beat, I feel it it’s important to point out that October is menopause awareness month; breast cancer awareness month; and of course peak midterms coverage. Thoughts and prayers, please. We are mellllllttttting.

Arguably she's half a Scaramucci because her first day on the job was Monday.

A Scaramucci is ten days (july 21-31). Zacharia was appointed on Oct 9 and lasted till October 16. So a Zacharia is seven days, or 7/10ths of a Scaramucci.

Lol news moves fast under Trump! We've updated this morning's Zacharia item to reflect her ouster:

Abortion is on the ballot in Nevada. If passed next month, Question 6 would add reproductive rights to the state constitution. Ahead of the vote Las Vegas reporter Jason Collins asked a doctor, researcher, and activists about the state of abortion care in Nevada—and how it’s changed since Roe fell.

Regular food is so expensive now that airport prices seem totally fine to me. Just paid $22 for a rice and falafel bowl, with tip—about $3 less than my local “bowl” spot seta me back in Brooklyn

RNG is partnering up w/other newsrooms to cover the midterms. There's many races and high-stakes issues to follow; independent outlets can do more by working together. We worked with @us.theconversation.com on this judicial races explainer. Stay tuned for our next collab, with @fullerproject.org

Don’t sleep on the judicial races in the 2026 midterms: As @rebouche.bsky.social writes, thanks to SCOTUS, state supreme court judges are increasingly tasked with deciding your fundamental rights. 60-plus seats are up for election.

My perimenopause and I loved chatting with Jennifer Weiss-Wolf about her new book, When In Menopause. It's out today! Weiss-Wolf believes that women are people whose dignity and wellbeing matter (radical!)--and that in healthy democracy, that fact makes menopause a public policy matter.

rewirenewsgroup.comMenopause is Everyone’s ProblemIt’s not your job to “fix yourself,” says the author of "When in Menopause," a new book arguing that this hormonal transition is a public policy matter—not just a private health journey.

As a reminder, “major loss for voters” =big blow to democracy. The US was already downgraded from “liberal democracy” to “electoral democracy” in 2025 bc of executive overreach and suppression of civil liberties. When elections lose their integrity and people power, democracy is a hard word to use.
