Brazilians recommending not to amplify right-wing talking points by dunking and quoting, as a winning strategy Next day, my tl is full of people dunking on rfk jr I literally would not have seen the bigotry if it wasn't for y'all repeating it. That's exactly what the Brazilians were on about!

I think what it has taken people a long time to realize is that the fascist idiot screaming on a street corner and the New York Times columnist are not independent phenomena but rather different endpoints of the same media ecosystem, which Capital operates diffusely as a messaging system.

Not just pundit class — "legitimate" journalists CANNOT STOP centering fascists and racists as the only possible source of narratives.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Imagine being a fan of a fascist… In a different fucking country. He’s not even fucking up your own country. Honestly, that’s more pathetic than my anglophile grandfather giving a shit about England’s royalty. Real loser behavior.

It's loser shit and they don't like being reminded of that

I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this

Anti-trans Democrats are spreading poison when we can least afford it, during elections in this ongoing fascist takeover. As a strategy, it’s a recipe for failure. As a moral stand, it’s reprehensible. PS I’m the father of young trans woman and I’ll never forgive anyone who makes her life harder.

This wasn't true when Alan Dean Foster was cranking out a stream of bangers and it's not true now. It is fun to play at my house. It is fun to play in someone else's yard.

There is a doofus currently arguing here that no "creative talent" would choose to write tie-ins, and since I just did a panel this weekend on why creative talents choose to write IP, here are a few reasons. Non-financial reasons, for fun and because frankly it usually doesn't pay that well.

Part of the reason that I think this genuinely upsets and terrifies the right is it’s just about the only reason they would ever change their terrible opinions: feeling a consequence personally.

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

Which is exactly why it’s the correct thing to do. You know where I heard my first racist jokes and slurs? Shitty family. My children are better off without Uncle Dave in their life (PS, eat shit, loser).

And if they were ever redeemable, you may actually get them to engage in a little self-reflection and moral growth! at which time, you can have an adult discussion about reestablishing safe contact. Not you Uncle Dave, though. There’s no hope for you, shitheel.

El-Sayed gave essentially a perfect response that I don’t think could be improved upon, and it didn’t change Tommy or anyone of his ilk’s mind, because each nasty milquetoast is committed to the most cowardly path towards what they hope is eventual genocide. A few public drubbings won’t change that.

I like the guy a lot. I hope he gets elected, and inspires other people. Every person in Tommy’s orbit who makes eye contact with him without spitting at him is a collaborator. If you don’t have zero tolerance for monsters, you are fucking up.

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

At no point did I think this was possible, but I was not about to interrupt all the joy of people who believed that they were getting 48 hours of slur-free Internet.

The Scary Movie franchise was always a nonstarter to me because it started off parodying Scream, itself a loving parody of horror films. You can’t divide by zero. That’s too far. You’re just looking at your navel now.

I don't know; I feel like it's pretty clear why living under queer-hating fascists would make people less likely to identify publicly as queer.

Young teenagers are less likely to identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual than a few years ago, according to a new analysis. “It really does look like a free fall,” Jean Twenge, a professor of psychology, said. “But what’s causing it is unclear.”

I'm just gonna bookmark this for future reference when Dem pundits complain about how the party has trouble communicating its message to voters. The reason you keep running into trouble with your branding isn't campus radicals. The reason is that your opponents purchased all the media outlets.

Finally got the chance to spend time reading and WOW. This is a sprawling gothic small town horror that feels like an immense epic that still moves light and quick from thread to nasty thread. An elegant sweaty nightmare told in a wide variety of styles, including spot on very modern epistolaries.
