Anyone using Homey for home automation stuff? I'm getting ready to set up my new house and I'm just curious if I should try Homey or just stick to Home Assistant. More than anything I need good UX to convince my wife to use it. She doesn't like how confusing Home Assistant can be.

Wrapping up the day with something special: last month, I won an award at City Hall for my work with veterans. It means a lot because I was told people here (ATL) care more about winning than how they win. This award proves you can succeed ethically, with integrity, and without cutting corners.

"It's written in Rust" is not a feature of your app. "It's blazing fast" is a hollow claim that makes me doubt it. Please stop putting these things on your homepage. Please show me why your tool/app/whatever makes my work easier/cheaper/faster-to-iterate.

Is the Ubiquiti Dream Machine still best set up for a home network? - Good UI/UX is important - 2Gbps Internet - Cat 6 in the walls - Need PoE for cameras - I'm too dumb to run EdgeRouter. I did for years and hated it - I do have WiFi 7 devices and two spots to ceiling mount APs - Lots of devices

Goodbye Minneapolis. It was fun to be temporarily Minnesotan. Lovely place with lovely people. Next stop: Huntington Beach for a month. 🏝️

I created a Bluesky Starter Pack! πŸŽ‰ It includes ~75 wonderful people in the web dev community who are doing inspiring work. I know I’ve missed some folks; I plan on adding to it over time. Starter packs are such a great idea. Immediately makes Bluesky feel less lonely for newcomers. πŸ˜„

My time as a midwesterner is drawing to a close. Very much enjoyed my time in Minneapolis, definitely see the appeal. Excited for our next stop in our temporarily-without-a-home tour: on the beach in Huntington Beach. πŸ–οΈ

Do you know how often I reference my own course materials? It's absurd. I am my own student.

Write about what you learn. It pushes you to understand topics better. Sometimes the gaps in our knowledge only become clear when explaining things to others.

Probably the end of my season snowboarding. First season back in some years but happy to pick back up the habit. Nabbed a new snowboard too and looking forward to next season. (This was about 1/3 of the days I went. I started using Slopes partway through the season)

Enjoying being here. Once you hit some critical threshold of followers on Twitter the platform becomes so much less fun. Every tweet has to be so generic so as not to have trillion follow ups on you not catching every nuance in 280 characters. It’s why I don’t tweet much anymore.

You are up to date.
