love your trans friends more than harry potter, it is easy

The Verge@theverge.com

As a new Harry Potter trailer makes the rounds, it bears repeating that there’s no way to watch this show without supporting J.K. Rowling’s bigotry and the structural violence she’s inflicting on the trans community.

I saw an ad for a board game on Kickstarter today and thought “I don’t need that, I have enough that are similar” I’ve been feeling like a midlife crisis is imminent — is this it?? 🧐

Whether slack and/or discord, the last few places I’ve worked had an ex-employees chat that we generally congregated in. This is the first time I’ve seen a news article written about one, though. #unprecedentedtimes #aitookmyjerb www.businessinsider.com/block-layoff...

businessinsider.comLaid off by Block, reunited on Slack: Inside the 3,800-person 'Square Mafia'Former Block employees congregate in an unaffiliated Slack group to share support, find new jobs, and trade memes. It's grown since recent layoffs.

sure is weird to try and hunt for a job when all <vague gestures> this is happening It's like a mental assault on every level and I've felt sore and tired for a few days now

It’s so weird to be part of layoffs that are like major tech news apparently and not like when it was Indeed, where it was just yet another layoff in tech. Weird to hear people debating it all and seeming to disregard the humanity of those cut.

Block was a really great place to work for the past four months. Unfortunately, I’m part of today’s 40% layoff. If you need an old hand at web stuff, who has staff software engineering experience at multiple international corporations, hit me up. ❤️

Love running a review of my Vim configuration and being told I have settings that have been unnecessary for like 20 years Then realizing I’ve used Vim for over half my lifetime

Me: dang, I can’t remember this key piece of info. Ugh. My brain: sorry, best I can do is this 90s commercial jingle Also Me: ooh, I can’t remember that awful person’s name anymore. That’s awesome. My brain: actually it’s <name> Why am I like this

I couldn’t remember my luggage combo but I forced it closed, knowing I could brute force my way in at the hotel. I started at 000, then 001, 002 etc This was the combo.

I am walking down the street at 10pm in Hakone, in Japan. It is mostly dark and quiet, and I am alone. I feel so relaxed and peaceful, a small reprieve to myself at the end of a challenging day. My final destination of 7-11 awaits, where I will get supplies to soothe my child’s cold.

I started a new job today, and it's kind of amazing the level of comfort that brings. I'd been employed for 22 years straight (ignoring weekends between jobs) and losing mine in July was jarring. However, it also seems like it was maybe the best thing for me.

Nothing special, I do that too

Google has acknowledged that sometimes when Gemini can’t solve a problem it descends into a pit of self loathing. Examples of its comments include - "I have failed you. I am a failure" - “I am a disgrace to my species” - "I have made so many mistakes that I can no longer be trusted."

I wrote a whole ton of random little experimental things using JS in like 2008, 2009, and I'm now working on creating a new personal website, and it's kind of a weird wild blast from the past to look at this code that had like, IE8 polyfills and jQuery 1.7 and such

I’ve made it through like … at least six or seven rounds of layoffs at various companies in my career. Never once laid off, somehow. Guess that streak had to end someday. Like today. If you need someone who’s been writing JS since the ‘90s and knows weird browser shit AND backend too, hit me up!

I’m here in pain from an unexpected medical procedure today that ended with six stitches and yet Somehow I’m like “I want to create a new personal website but have no idea what to do as a domain” At 1am

13yo: I don't always understand your jokes, dad. They're bad. Me: Yeah, they can't all be bangers that hit hard. (This is a callback to earlier w/ them) 13yo: Ugh Me: I'm sorry they don't skibidi rizz. 13yo: Dad Me: My jokes are from Ohio, okay? 13yo: Do you enjoy seeing me suffer? Me: Sometimes

Can’t say that “call 911 to get my 9yo off my roof” was something I’d ever be doing but here we are. He climbed a tree to see if he could do this but without a plan to get down. He’s totally fine and honestly he enjoyed it. I can’t say I did, though. 😂😅
