Trans people need us. Let's show up for Austin! Last year, we helped @distributeaid.org raise $15,000 for direct trans mutual aid, funding hundreds of years of HRT supplies delivered straight to our community. Donate $20 for $400 worth of RPGs and help us do it again! itch.io/b/3971/austi...

dawg these politicians gotta stop talking about the students, who they never support real convenient for US Dems to frame the election as a "student victory against authoritarianism" while ignoring what they did to their own student protest movement in 2024

Yes!! I highly recommend the free documentary Elements of Mutual Aid for anyone who wants to learn from mutual aid groups all around North America: theelementsofmutualaid.com

This is actually most of the work. Mutual aid is community self-defence. Fundraising for a bail fund is community self-defense. etc

Truthfully, one of the biggest challenges is hubris. *Everybody* thinks they're good at comms, everybody thinks they know exactly how to persuade people, virtually everyone has zero experience. Even fewer know how to do it online. And most resources go to the folks with almost no history of success.

Good thread. I don't agree with all the framing, but definitely do agree with the substance.

Seeing as I got tagged in the next post (and these are only my opinions): 1. We need people at all levels of organising to accept that antifascism inherently involves risk. Fascism is an ideology with violence built into it ideologically. Fascists will do violence, whether you choose it or not.

This is actually most of the work. Mutual aid is community self-defence. Fundraising for a bail fund is community self-defense. etc

6. Okay, but if you really genuinely can't do frontline stuff, we need people who can handle logistics. We need fundraisers. We need friendly people on the edges of black blocs handing out flyers or talking to people explaining why black blocs are good. We need. We need spotters.

Some ground rules that have helped us: - Go outside your bubble, try new social media channels - Don’t underestimate the power of WhatsApp (although less so in the U.S.) - Post on the Instagram grid, not just stories - Watch every Instagram video until the end before sharing - IGNORE THEM

People don’t understand why I keep noting that BlueSky is not a bubble, it is a counterpublic. It serves its own organizational function: you can see in realtime in January 2025, on multiple types of social media, shouting that an executive order is instruction to an agency. This one stuck.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump have lost surprise elections thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

Story time: During Helene @distributeaid.org organized with @ufw.bsky.social and MADR to protect migrant farmworkers. They couldn't come into town to access services since they were worried about getting detained by the authorities. But that isolation also left them at risk of trafficking.... 1/n

NEW: Ingram, Texas, was just rebuilding from a devastating flood when its tiny police department enrolled in ICE’s 287(g) deportation program. Within a year, cops would hand over the equivalent of 10% of the town. with @nytimes.com

and of course illness / death due to exposure. So UFW provided the hotspot data, DA delivered survival gear such as LifeStraws, and MADR search & rescue teams drove out to connect with the workers and distribute the aid. All of this happened without any government involvement.

The point I'm making is that the incident in the article isn't isolated. It is actually quite common, from ICE checkpoints along evacuation routes to the Greek coast guard drowning migrants at sea. Every aid org and emergency management crew needs to be prepared to deal with this.

We saw reports of "machines switching votes" in TN & TX. These are typically real issues — a calibration problem w/ older touchscreen machines — but not intentional efforts to rig the vote. Always good for voters to check that their vote is being recorded correctly. www.cip.uw.edu/2026/10/22/e...

what sacrifices have you made for people who arent your own? what have you done to fix the problems in the world that never impacted you? have you done *anything* for other people who dont remind you of yourself?

i think the real thing that makes someone a leftist is when you start to actually give a shit about movements and issues that don't affect you. anyone can stand up for things that affect them. but it takes actual principles to stand up for groups you're not a part of. most people dont do this.

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.
