I think it was a big mistake to make generative AI chatbots talk in the first person. AI is not an “I”. AI is not a being.

One of the worst parts of the Trump era is that we’re repeatedly told to hate our neighbors.   Just look at all the positive videos – of people from around the world coming together to celebrate sports right now – and know we can choose a different path.

Hey folks! I'm starting grad school next month to become a therapist. So excited. The universe clearly approves: just found out my contract creating engineering onboarding curriculum ends this month. Fact is, I enjoy having an income. Would love any leads on contract work in tech education!

Oh right, this is why I avoided moving my personal site off of Vercel… after two years of dormancy it is taking hours to get it to build again.

✨ I just made a few lessons from my courses public for a few days! This is part of my annual Spring sale. It’s become tradition for me to offer a bit of a free sample, to help folks decide if my courses are a good fit for them or not. I call it the “Open House”, and it runs until Wednesday.

🌸✨ I just launched my annual Spring Sale! You can save up to 50% on my online courses. (I realize that it's basically summer in most of the northern hemisphere right now 😂. But up here in Canada, the flowers just started blooming! Look at the trees near my office.) Details in thread. 🧵

I wrote about being inundated with AI writing at every turn, unwittingly turning my brain into the AI police, and how shitty AI writing is randomly showing up in my real life outside of the internet www.404media.co/your-ai-use-...

An AI story: I set up a meeting with an expert I’ve worked with before to help debug my Android build. He said he was too busy and suggested Claude. Claude solved my debug issues, but I don’t understand what it did. I keep having issues, I keep asking Claude to solve them. 🧵

I’m making progress (I think) but I also feel like I’m getting stupider, lazier, and have less understanding of the code I’m writing.

If you have a developer education budget at work, I would really encourage you to use it on your favourite developer educators. A lot of us are deciding whether or not to keep doing this stuff, and that support would help send a signal that we should keep going. ❤️

Surely this is partly on me — I could have tried harder to talk to a human, and I could have worked harder to understand the changes Claude made. But I wasn’t motivated to do either of these things.

I am a person who loves understanding stuff and doesn’t mind hard work. But I also find human interactions to be motivating and rewarding. I don’t like the direction things are going. The end.

The worst part is, I was also robbed of strengthening my human connections so that I have a strong network of experts to help when I ask for things like content reviews (I create content for incoming developers at a tech company).

This is an actual post. This is not funny. This is beyond desperate. This is a deeply unwell man who doesn’t belong anywhere near the levers of power. Every member of his cabinet and Congress is complicit in not demanding his removal now.

The biggest story in the world right now is that the president of the United States is a demented old man who takes pleasure in torturing and killing people and is committing crimes with impunity. And yet most legacy media outlets are too cowardly to tell it like it is.

If you see this, I implore you to post a picture from whatever device you're using with no explanation.

I recommend against using AI when teaching new topics. It doesn't make sense. You learn nothing from writing a prompt.

Here’s a question I get a lot: > “Now that AI can generate front-end UIs for us, what’s the point of learning CSS ourselves?” I think there are lots of reasons, including that you can use AI much more effectively if you understand CSS yourself. But is that actually true? Let’s discuss. 🧵

I think this is a really great point. I’ve had *moments* with Cursor where it’s been 10x faster than what I’d have done by hand, and those moments are super memorable. But most of the time, my experience is a lot more mixed.
