Norway produces more oil than Venezuela. And yet, between January and August 2026, electric vehicles made up 97.8 percent of all new cars sold in that country. Moving to EVs is often based on intelligence, not need. Which is why it lags in the notoriously short-sighted and stupid United States.

The late great Harold Bloom said of Ernest Hemingway that no one had written better short stories since James Joyce’s “Dubliners.” But Bloom gave only backhanded praise to Hem’s novels, including “The Sun Also Rises.” I think Bloom’s wrong. Here’s why: litsavage.substack.com/p/the-sun-al...

“Of Hemingway’s intensity of style in the briefer compass there is no question, but even ‘The Sun Also Rises’ reads now as a series of epiphanies, of brilliant and memorable vignettes,” Bloom says in The American Canon: Literary Genius from Emerson to Pynchon.”
