please we cannot lose BioWare AND Arkane in the same week

Jason Schreier@jasonschreier.bsky.social

Let me share some positive news for a change: Despite all the gloomy headlines today, my understanding is that there are multiple paths actively being explored that would save Arkane Lyon. Anything can happen during negotiations, but at this point I'd be surprised if the studio is shut down.

I would hope by now everyone knows Beastieball rules

Beastieball@beastieball.bsky.social

we don’t use generative AI, have hand drawn 2D animated sprites, AND our game is coded by a bearded canadian guy with glasses so you be the judge of that

It's late October, which means bird flu season is coming, which means millions and millions of dead birds and probably higher egg prices. The US has safe and effective vaccines to mitigate this, but we're not using them, in part because of RFK Jr.'s anti-vaccine agenda.

I saw a best games list with an AI prompt still in the opening paragraph. I actually take my curated lists seriously; I don't write with AI, and I only feature games that deserve a spot. Our best horror games list is my baby. www.gamespot.com/gallery/best...

How did @redbarrels.bsky.social go from an indie studio that couldn't find a single interested publisher to the creators of one of horror's most successful series? Read my feature on the history of Outlast. 🎃 www.gamespot.com/articles/no-...

gamespot.comNo Publisher Wanted Outlast. 60 Million Players Later, The Horror Juggernaut Is Doing Just Fine. The team at Red Barrels spent the last 15 years figuring out success on the fly.

This guy sure does love ramping up his pro-Russia rhetoric right before elections. I wonder why.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "My decision on Russia is simple... Russia is doing very little, if anything, to help Iran, compared to what they could be doing ... Zelenskyy is using refineries as a target, knowing attacks are seriously hurting ... He could have made better deal 2 years ago. His country is in shambles ..."

Mike Flanagan’s Carrie is a toothless, borderline enjoyable modernization of a horror classic. I have two episodes left and I’ll watch them, but it’s been so sanitized and simple. I don’t usually love Flanagan’s stuff anyway, but his best (Midnight Mass) is incredible. Carrie is just Content.™️

Gonna start the Jason show tonight and hope for something better, though historically the only Jason stuff I’ve enjoyed is the video game and the one time Freddy backpacked him through a 3/5 stars crossover.

This is my daughter and my nieces elementary school. They’re both okay. We’re all shook up but we’re safe. We’re very involved in this school and know so many of the kids and families. Some of those lost were classmates of our kids. We can’t keep going through this and doing nothing about it…

When a stranger and I could’ve butted heads, but instead we shake hands, that’s the beauty of Arc Raiders. PvE-only servers remove this magic, and I’m really worried they’ll become permanent and push my cooperative lobbies into that lesser world. www.gamespot.com/articles/i-o...

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

Posted a picture from a WNBA game a few weeks ago and ever since it’s become my most popular post among bot accounts. I take it as a firsthand look at how a fake culture war is made.

what does this mean

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "We will pass a truly great healthcare plan that will stop all payments to big insurance companies"

In Hellraiser: Revival, the main character's name is Aiden Lynch. If you asked me how many video game protagonists have been named Aiden Lynch before, I'd probably guess four or five.

Interesting read, though I find it funny that the writer opens with the Kingdom Hearts collab. The only KH I ever played was the one with Toy Story because that’s the only Disney thing I love, and all the characters behaved like body snatchers, not at all like themselves.

Fansplaining@fansplaining.bsky.social

"The simultaneous proliferation of AI, social media, and the massive success of unlikely brand collaborations have blurred the lines of how characters are portrayed, and how the characters’ brands portray themselves in turn." @sam.robotsfightingdinosaurs.com on Fortnite's uneasy brand crossovers:

Watching Audition today and Never After Dark tonight has reminded me that J-Horror is a useless distinction. At least with “JRPG,” you can make the case that it describes a particular type of gameplay experience. J-Horror is just… horror made in Japan(?)

lol same thing happens when you advocate for animal welfare. “What if I was stranded on a deserted island/a lion/born into a community that lives off the land?” My man, you’re regularly waiting in line at Taco Bell.

The War on Cars@thewaroncars.bsky.social

People already inventing scenarios like “what if the guy in the truck is hauling Steinway pianos for regular practice at senior centers while also working as a refrigerator deliveryman.” Good job, everyone. You’ve been, shall we say, carwashed.

Hearing Mike Flanagan suggest Carrie might be a three-season show has really dampened my enthusiasm. I’m already watching it via borrowed Prime, and I love a nice miniseries that doesn’t overstay its welcome. If he does more I think I’ll pass.

I’d enjoyed how the last few Gears of War sequels finally gave the series some color. But now with the prequel, I guess they felt beholden to the series’ traditional color, uh, “palette.” Left: Gears 5 DLC | Right: Gears E-Day

In our home, my kids and I only accept my voices for Elephant and Piggie as canon. Those imposters we hear on the app and the forthcoming TV show are off-putting and unwelcome.

Andrew Lawrence@ndrew.bsky.social

how can you not want to read to a kid, you get to do all the voices and shit like what tf is wrong with these people

Jordan captures my takeaway too. I like it as a game, though it feels like a lot of the time you spend in Hellraiser: Revival is on things it needs to do to *be a video game* which often comes at the expense of being Hellraiser.

Jordan Oloman@oloman.bsky.social

The Hellraiser game has some jaw-dropping visual design, though I wish it were more like Amnesia than Resident Evil. A highly derivative, half-baked combat system makes the gamey elements clash heavily with the IP's identity. postmode.org/hellraiser-r...
