I'll face what it means: it means that as a society we genuinely just don't think rape is that bad of a crime and is roughly comparable to shoplifting or jaywalking.
I think as a society people just don't want to face what it means about us that Trump is a rapist and even though that was public information he was still elected President

I cannot express the hate I hold in my heart for Jared Polis.
Colorado & Michigan have become the latest blue states to end Medicaid coverage for trans youth. Solidly blue Colorado will also be IMMEDIATELY shutting off care for all trans kids receiving puberty blockers—despite Trump's rule allowing a 6 month ‘tapering’ period. This is a complete betrayal.

Employment rate in that crowd has gotta be looking like that of 1931 Kansas
Pro-Palestinian protesters gather outside City Hall to call out Mayor Zohran Mamdani for what they see as his betrayal of the movement. "Mayor Mamdani, you can't hide we charge you with genocide" was a chant that just rang out.

In the Republican language “California” is one of the worst curse words it is possible to utter
Oh yes. But what he said is also par for the course in rural america. No seriously I've spent my life hearing people 'joke' about how they hope california falls into the sea. @boxelderdust.bsky.social can probably back me up on this. Trump is and talks like his voters. And they love it.

Decades and decades of a national policy and zeitgeist that amounts to 'nobody needs to care about social studies' and we're now in an unwinnable war with a foreign country whose culture and leadership we did not understand based around geography we ignored. 🤷♂️
Been considering starting to teach and drill my 5th graders on basic map locations, even though nobody gives a shit about social studies.

liberal democracy is not a luxury. liberal democracy is the magic beast that ran the table on fascism and communism and totalitarianism. we did not do this by giving up on liberal democracy and embracing evil. we did this by sticking to our most dear principles.

Remember, every single person who ever said "We don't need a President, we need a CEO to run this country like a business" has been proven to be 1000% laughably wrong.
“We could do tremendous good for ourselves by just not trading with countries” — Trump’s bonkers view of trade is that you become wealthy by not engaging in commerce

it's insane they do this bend-over-backwards "critics say it raises questions" shit when the actual law just says "its illegal to put living people on currency"
The U.S. Mint releases video showing the manufacturing process for $1 coins featuring President Trump, issued to mark the United States' 250th anniversary in 2026. Critics have raised questions about the design's legality.

I genuinely can't think of a perspective on American politics more thoroughly discredited at this point than "they're unmotivated by genuine convictions, it's all pure greed". Having that take in 2026 should get you put in a home. Do you assholes know how much better off we'd be if that were true?

The story of COVID breaking our social norms is still basically true but the thing about it is that the real story is one of Americans being decadent wimps instead of the lockdowns being some beyond-the-pale act of tyranny
People have this idea that the pandemic is what broke our social norms. The reality is 2020 saw the largest uprising for civil rights in my lifetime, and the average citizen spent less than a month in "lockdown" (it was not). The pandemic is a whipping boy for real political problems!
