I know the solution is to log off but, counterpoint, I will never log off

I’m now imagining talking in real life like a Mike Flanagan character. “Did I run the dishwasher last night? [Chuckles.] I knew you’d ask me that. You know? Did you run the dishwasher, Brittany. I should have done a lot of things last night. I thought about doing the laundry, too.”

These scenes sometimes do work for me but it’s hilarious imagining how quickly you’d lose your mind having even one conversation like this

I am right on the edge of rage quitting this goddamn website again for a while, is this obvious or am i playing it cool

Is it really a question why the robot is able to solve math problems at a higher rate than biological problems

Also I think it is worth noting that since I started paying for more of my Internet services, I am a much more satisfied Internet citizen

Brittany@sameoldstory.co

I don’t know how to explain to people anymore that services cost money

I pay for a lot more than most people are willing to, and obviously not everybody can do it, but I don’t honestly think it is that much money ($30 a month?)

Stages of sharing my politics with friends and acquaintances: 1) I am a Democrat. 2) I am an extremely partisan Democrat. 3) Okay so 2) is more of a war stance than an accurate reflection of all my positions, much of which I don’t feel we have the luxury of arguing about in these dark times.

I’m watching a thread of people who are demanding 1) an email service alternative to Proton, 2) that doesn’t use AI, and promises to never use AI, 3) is privacy-focused (that means no ads), and finally, is 4) completely free

I’m jealous of people who started having their kids so early that they don’t even know how infrequently childless adults get sick

That’s also why Vivek isn’t exactly lying when he says he didn’t mean to say Acton lied about being raped as a child. He doesn’t think she lied; he thinks that being raped disqualifies her from office, because she belongs to the class of people power is wielded against, not the class that wields it.

I don’t think this is exactly what’s going on, or all that’s going on. It’s not that Republicans are constructing an elaborate psychological defense against evidence that Trump is a rapist. It’s that they like that he’s a rapist, and they like rape: it enacts the power of the strong over the weak.

Julian Sanchez@normative.bsky.social

The vile attacks on Amy Acton need to be seen in the context of a party that *needs* people to believe women fabricating sexual assaults is common as rainwater. Because it’s pretty much the only way to evade the conclusion that the president is a rapist.

After the disappointing events of today, I’m calling for a total shutdown on users of this website spreading newspaper articles about AI until we figure out what’s going on here

I’m kidding. We know what’s going on here. This is a text-based social media website that struggles with basic literacy

Hmm I wonder who’s the problem here

Jason Koebler@jasonkoebler.bsky.social

this is happening because big tech customer support basically doesn't exist and desperate people are asking ChatGPT what to do. ChatGPT is sending them to journalists

Tbc I have Jason’s exact professional problem and it’s ruining my life (my problem is maybe worse than his due to my own professional obligations) but how many of these accounts did ChatGPT suspend? Was it zero?

And in the context of his work, “manipulative” is kind of morally neutral, which is weird! A lot of people hate watching the work for this which is understandable

This really gets next level in the Rehearsal, and it really sounds like it goes to a level above with YCSE because it explores the idea of the subject playing a pretty strong manipulation game of her own, and I want to see it sooooo baaaadddd aaaahhh

I might rewatch some of it as I stew how unable to get to the theater I am for You Can See Everything (having used up my allotment of babysitting favors for lame “working the election” reasons, like an idiot!!!)

I feel like many of the people opining on his qualities as an interview recently, though, do not realize how manipulative he is

i think there is a type of climate activist who is going to be pretty upset when the climate doesn’t end up being the thing that compels “normies” to obey or die but it doesn’t usually get illustrated this… directly

anthropic at worst dodged a fee (that to be clear, was probably something like $100, not $100,000) and arguably they didn’t even do that since a version of the website they did not take down (but did probably forget about) actually let them do it

The only harmed party here is the Georgia Secretary of State. The entity that harmed them? Also the Georgia Secretary of State

It’s funny that prominent AI boosters are rich and have already farmed out the boring parts of life. So they don’t use it how a normal person might (shopping lists, bargain hunts, chore scheduling, ingredient substitutions, minor home repair, whatev). Their use cases are wack to normal people.

maybe I do worship the good governance and human well being god. I would at least consider it

sometimes i miss the secondhand paint fumes on the other site

I dislike how many people are writing out “oh so you want to do things BETTER. you want MEASURABLE ACHIEVEMENTS. you want to quantify what success looks like in any form!!” nowadays, I’m sure people thought this kind of thing in the olden days but afaict usually not in writing

My mom was obsessed with the Dungeons & Dragons, and taped nearly every episode when it was on the air. We grew up watching them regularly, but very carefully because we knew that once those tapes wore out we would never see any of those episodes ever again

intelligence is knowing that if i ever looked up anything about Magyar, Lula, or any of the other election winners i would probably not be great fans of their politics wisdom is knowing it doesn't matter because defeating the global chud coalition is all that matters for the foreseeable future
