Completely agree, it’s objectively a perfect nickname

Goddamn they would be fucking launching an endless stream of TALAFREAKO merch out of a tee shirt cannon every day for the next three weeks if I was even within earshot of his campaign manager for ten seconds. What a gift to be given that sick-ass nickname by the worst guy alive.

Speaking of single-point origin cliches, did the current usage of “glaze” (to mean flatter) not emerge entirely from Sliwa saying it in a NYC mayoral debate?

Generally I don’t judge someone for failing the bar exam. Some of the smartest, most competent people I know have faced that setback. But in this case I’m willing to make an exception!!!!

White House press secretary Katie Zacharia took the California bar exam but didn't pass it. Trump has referred to her as an attorney.

When I wrote Killing Stays in 2024, I think a public execution was beyond my imaginings (though what happened to Christa Pike was, sadly, not). @stevevladeck.bsky.social's latest One First on this captures a lot of what I'm thinking as I watch our grotesque killing state: tinyurl.com/5kd42xh4

stevevladeck.com257. Public Executions and the Eighth AmendmentThe shift in the Court's Eighth Amendment jurisprudence would be a significant obstacle to litigation challenging the public execution of Nidal Hasan.

I marvel at how Jim Henson’s brain worked. This was a presentation piece to the executives at CBS when he was trying to get them, ultimately unsuccessfully, to pick up THE MUPPET SHOW... But if you’re a TV executive sitting in a boardroom watching this, there’s no way it’s not leaving an impression.

Agreed, and on top of that, I actually cherish my agency even for shit like what to eat

Rachel@rachelneedsanap.bsky.social

It honestly sounds like far too much work. I am not going to put in the effort to 1) learn a bunch of computer programming, 2) re-organize my entire life into tasks an AI could help with, and 3) build specialized AI agents to do those tasks. My life has no room for these things. I don’t want them.

The underappreciated point here is that taking the messy, contingent nature of scheduling, communication, and navigating social relationships is something that AI people think these tools can do. When in fact it is quite difficult and takes a lot of social skill.

Tressie McMillan Cottom@tressiemcphd.bsky.social

Technology enthusiasts severely overestimate the average person’s desire or willingness or capacity to build and use AI agents. I understand some work roles that could mandate or encourage it but that is no way a tech revolution. Agents are best for structured, clearly delineated tasks.

There have always been humans who thought: 1) The world will end soon 2) It will happen in a cool, exciting way 3) It’ll happen to me personally 4) I’ll be a martyred prophet, or a warlord, or otherwise special 5) People who don’t see this are lesser “Sexy apocalypse” is a great phrase for that

Rep. Jasmine Crockett defended victims of Epstein and Trump. Why is she kissing up to Chris Brown? To (rightfully) lambast your colleagues for supporting a sexual abuser, only to have those politics fly out the window for something so inconsequential, is, on its face, a baffling choice.

Glad folks are appalled by photos of the "phone booth" cage under an awning, but pls understand: This IG report is likely part of a cover-up. Amnesty Int'l interviewed detainees EIGHT MONTHS AGO who said the cage was half this size (couldn't stand up), had no awning, w feet chained to the bottom.

New: Macklemore says Robert Kraft — who owns Gillette Stadium, where Macklemore & Ed Sheeran were to perform later this month — called Sheeran. Kraft rallied other owners together behind an ultimatum for Sheeran: if Macklemore stays on the tour, you won't be allowed in our venues.
