Nothing is shocking anymore...but the audacity of the dismantling of regulations that protect health is worth understanding. It is also worth considering what "Project 2029" should look like....

Eric Lipton NYT@ericlipton.nytimes.com

JUST POSTED: Today at The NYT we are publishing a major investigation into how President Trump used his executive powers to expose millions of Americans to greater cancer risks. A six month-long investigation built on more than 10,000 pages of FOIA records. Read it www.nytimes.com/2026/10/24/c...

Why anyone thought that gravity energy storage was ever anything but a pump and dump fraud on par with launching a memecoin is beyond me. But for those who still think this tech has a future...read on. This is an absolute dead end. The fact that NRGV still has a >$750m market cap is...something.

Oh of course. The new chair of Mount Sinai is John B Hess. This guy: www.ms.now/news/chevron...

BREAKING: The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Friday that it reached an “agreement” with Mount Sinai Health System in which it will “cease providing” gender-affirming medical care to minors and dedicate $2 million to providing care to those “suffering harmful consequences” of such care.

The brand new chairman of the board of trustees, the Trump loving oil company CEO John Hess was surely instrumental in this decision. People at the hospital who actually give a shit about patient care should be mortified.

6.7 GW of power/20.2GWh of capacity built in one quarter in the US. That's 6 large nuclear reactors worth of capacity shifted for 3 hours a day. Batteries are going to change everything faster than you realize. www.canarymedia.com/articles/bat...

canarymedia.comThe US built more grid batteries last quarter than ever beforeThe outlook for storage construction keeps getting brighter as everyone from the Trump White House to clean energy advocates to AI giants clamors for more.

I can't stress enough that this book (Money Game) was written in nineteen sixty six, and it might as well have been published yesterday:

Just to be clear, Social Security is not accounting fraud (obviously). Its structure has to be adjusted over time for changing demographics, of course, but it's a completely sustainable approach to income security for the elderly.

The “head of strategic futures” at OpenAI just went on an unhinged rant against social security sometimes I feel like these tech companies are actively trying to alienate as many normal people as possible

it's maddening. and not only this, renewables are now the cheapest form of electricity AND fossil fuels have suffered repeated severe price shocks AND EVs are now price competitive with gas cars

It's kind of crazy how large a swathe of the American intelligentsia have just decided to completely ignore climate change at the exact time when climate change is having serious material impacts on America

Over 90GW of gross load, with >100 degrees everywhere, no wind and heat index in Dallas >120...and $26 MWH? Two or three years ago those conditions would have led to far higher prices. Solar for the win...

Here is the "WARNING NOTICE" federal agents hand-delivered. "YOU MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW" It's the second of these notices I am aware of. If you've received one, please get in touch: fire.org/alarm

What an absolute waste of Federal resources and a violation of the 1st Amendment. These people should be ashamed. Perhaps we should all send emails to every ICE agent out there letting them know just how terrible their organization is? Wasting time with warnings >> rounding up immigrants.

Sean O’Kane@okane.fyi

Side note but props to @syracuse.com (my hometown-ish outlet) for not only kicking off this DHS agent / First Amendment news cycle, but for going full throttle and digging up even more

Scaling up sodium-ion! Passively cooled, very safe, and very abundant - this is going to ensure that grid-scale batteries show up everywhere. CAISO went from batteries providing a few % to 44% of peak in about 5 years. Get ready to start seeing that everywhere.

GM partnering with Peak Energy to help develop sodium-ion cells in their Michigan battery labs was not on my bingo card but I'll take it insideevs.com/news/798154/...

"On June 1, the Tumbleweed project in California’s Kern County became the first major battery installation in the U.S. that can discharge power for up to eight hours at a time — twice as long as typical energy-storage facilities," reports Julian Spector: www.canarymedia.com/articles/lon... 🔌💡

Makary was clearly a source for this story. He may have even planted the seed as a way to try and salvage a bit of reputation on his way out. They will appoint someone even worse than him to head the FDA.

Every clause makes it worse.

I applaud Matt for continuing to try and spread the truth. It is a lot less popular than spreading anecdotal stories that confirm priors.

"I could sit here citing millions of commodities/products with similar price hikes compared to wages." Yes - you could. This is called "creating a price index". The Bureau of Labor Statistics has *already done this*. It shows that wages have increased faster than prices.

You know how if you’re hit by a truck, the impact is 10 times harder than from a car going the same speed? Well, EV trucks are about to upend the freight industry, and the impact will be 10 times bigger than from EV cars. The scale of what is coming is HUGE: 🧵 www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

bloomberg.comChinese Truck Drivers Are Going Electric as Gas Prices SoarAs electric car sales soften in China after years of breakneck growth, electric trucks are taking off, with the emerging industry expected to get a boost from the Iran war.

So many people are absolutely unwilling to even do the most basic research to understand things, example 1562. They read a Facebook post once that confirmed a prior and...that's it. They are locked into that view forever and nothing can shake it. EVs have a better carbon footprint than ICE, period.

John Smillie@johnsmillie42.bsky.social

Someone has now sent me DMs over this, though more politely than in the comments. Seems a lot of people really believe that battery minerals give EVs a worse footprint despite every single study total he contrary.

This is great to see coming to fruition, along with the recently energized ISO NE connection to Quebec hydro. No project is perfect, but this is one that works and will have a meaningful impact on decarbonization.

Pete Sikora@petesikora.bsky.social

Great news ICYMI: the huge CHPE renewables transmission project from Canada to NYC is now running power. Atm it’s in test mode. Very soon it’ll send commercial electric power. It’s HUGE: it’ll be about 20% of the power for the entire NYC grid, which will go from ~10% to ~30% hydro, solar & wind!

The future...now. Great to see.

Excellent news: gas use on Australia's biggest power grid hit a 25 year low in Q1 2026, largely thanks to batteries shifting solar from the middle of the day to the crucial evening peak. Real world emissions cuts. Actual good news. You are allowed to enjoy it. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-04...
