A fun thing I'm working on: A minimalist implementation of @opentelemetry.io auto tracing and egress via OTLP/JSON for @nodejs.org, with the intention of baking it into Node.js itself for OOTB observability. It's not ready yet! But here it is. github.com/nodejs/micro...

Got broken traces in your Node.js APM tool? This usually means async context is broken. Most often this is because of "userland queueing" a.k.a. callbacks being stored and then run at some later time. My tool async-break-finder can help you track down the problem! npm.im/async-break-...

My colleagues Pablo and Kemal are campaigning for a seat on the OTel GC. Pablo is a prolific contributor and GC veteran who needs no introduction. Kemal has done fantastic work on Compile-Time Instrumentation for Go. But please check out all the candidates and vote! github.com/open-telemet...
The whole "only browsers are okay and everything else is hosed" is a pretty friggin bad state of affairs, tbh. We ought to do better as an industry.
After the firefighting is done (and a nap) we'll need to have a long, serious conversation about the state of non-browser non-platform X.509 verifiers. The Linux status quo is "a pile of PEM files behind a dumpster" and that's not an acceptable excuse for a root store in 2026.

Node.js will reject TLS chains that use any of the 8 compromised eMudhra (emSign) intermediate keys, ported from Electron and matching Go and the blocks Chrome and Firefox already ship. Blocks by public key, so reissued certs don't get through. github.com/nodejs/node/...

🚨 Six WebPKI Intermediate CAs are compromised. This is bigger than Heartbleed, but a client-side issue. Anything that verifies certificates against public roots, like most TLS clients, is/was affected. Details, live test, patched versions and workarounds at emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com Act now.

"Of course, we have to teach our students about AI technologies. Teaching about AI technologies should be just like how we teach ‘no smoking’ or the causal links between lung cancer and cigarette smoke; yet, we do not teach students how to roll cigarettes and smoke them." zenodo.org/records/2008...

If you need a JS runtime that's not subject to being "acquired" and "sunsetted", @nodejs.org is right there. By design, it can't be governed by a single company.

I have sampled the @nodeconf.eu speaker gift (a bag of coffee) and I can confirm that it's pretty tasty! Thanks @nodeland.dev et al! (For the curious: I did 383ml to 23g, steeped for 2 min in a Clever Dripper, stir, another 30s, then release.)

My step brother had a cardiac arrest last week and now suffers brain damage. His recovery will not be short, and might not ever be complete. If anyone has a few bucks to spare to help pay his bills, that would be fantastic and much appreciated. Goal is almost hit! gofund.me/2840bca26

Folks. This referendum is divisive nonsense but you MUST vote. Brexit happened because "normal" people thought It couldn't happen so didn't bother.
I keep meeting smart informed Albertans who tell me they do not intend to vote, because they don’t want to legitimize the process, or because they know the premier is not bound by the results. But what if making us give up on voting is the whole point? My argument to vote - no matter the absurdity.
